For China's motivations.
You can add a land link through to Iran, who are good buddies and customers.
Overflight link to Iran and further on to Iraq, or up to eastern Europe.
Many clients for weapons and technology, and usual consumer stuff, Afghanistan will need lots too.
Another link if one of the other Stans gets antsy on the belt and road.

Plus showing that democracy is rubbish is thick icing on the cake.
They might also get some cover for other goings on in China, as a condition for loans.
Taliban in strict form did consider other moderate Muslims as somewhat heretical.

There have been anti-Taliban protests and according to Al Jazeera resulted in several deaths when the Taliban opened fire.

Who knows what China or Russia's actual plans are?  There's lithium and copper, some oil and gas they'd probably want access to.  It's a bit of a stretch to suggest they "planned" anything.

The Taliban have seized control but the US have frozen foreign exchange reserves and assets the IMF have blocked access to aid.

Unless or until there's a government formed that's recognised as being legitimate, then the only outcome is a domestic humanitarian disaster and an international refugee crisis.

Yes, there's a need for diplomatic relations to be established immediately.

The reports from the airport perimeter are not encouraging. As NBC is reporting above the US requested Taliban forces in Kabul provide security at the airport perimeter. It's likely this coordination is being performed at a local level only.

The situation appears to be extremely confused with the U.S State Dept saying people are being prevented from reaching the airport:

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/08/18/taliban-blocks-afghans-from-reaching-kabul-airport-us-cannot-guarantee-safety.html

Other reports indicate the perimeter security is requiring proof of invite or similar for departure and most people don't have it.

Yes.  Tolo News is reporting civilian casualties from Taliban infighting.  They're also reporting:

Foreign embassies and organizations in Afghanistan on Thursday said they are evacuating only those Afghans who are eligible to leave the country or who have worked with US forces

Most of the people in the airport do not have documents to prove that they have worked for the US or any other Western NGOs.

Reports say that the Taliban and US forces have treated people at the airport harshly.

According to the latest information, so far 40 people in the crowds have been killed or seriously injured either from gunfire, stampeding or falling from aircraft as they are taking off.

"The thing is, no one trusts anything that comes from the Taliban's mouth." "I highly doubt the Taliban have changed. They don't have the same values as Afghan people. Democracy is out of the picture for them. We are in the belief that the Taliban are putting up a front because the international community and United Nations is watching them closely,"

suggest also to watch the video in there

Just to prove a leopard can't change its spots.

All the platitudes from their spokesman is just so much bs.

I don't disagree - except there's a possibility that what the spokespeople say isn't so much BS - but wishful thinking.

So what can anybody do?  Start dropping bombs or bibles?

It's unclear why these people are being sought by the Taliban or IEA. It's logical the incoming government will want to retain some key people. Clearly there is a great deal of fear and it is entirely unclear what the intention is. The fear is legitimate in these circumstances. Interesting perspectives from Biden and Guterres in the article:

The UN chief Antonio Guterres said the only leverage the body had over the Taliban was the militant's desire for international recognition.

Asked in an interview if he thought the Taliban had changed, President Biden said no, adding the group faced an "existential" choice about whether they want to be recognised.

The spokesperson flew in from somewhere (Doha? Pakistan?) and presumably has the authority of the top leadership to speak in advance of their arrival and the constitution of the new government with all parties. The formation of a new government was promised with many parties, it was said to take time, and it has not occured yet. No doubt it's difficult. It's not a good situation.

I'm interested to try and see the current location of our Hercules. I've set Flightradar24 to filter for C130. There are about 20 showing worldwide right now - including some in the area of interest - but ours is not one of them. Probably they don't have their transponder-thingy switched on. I'm guessing there would actually be a lot more military C130s airborne globally right now than those that are showing. Air forces that do show up include US, Turkey, Saudi, Mexico and Sweden. Also saw freight and firefighting flights in CA earlier.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

long way to go. hhopefully they can keep their promises but that would be a first for that volatile region - every country there makes a lot of claims and promises to the world but we know what happens next https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/aug/20/afghanistan-reports-of-torture-and-killing-contradict-taliban-promises

Coincidence, but I had the same thought to see where it was last night, and took a screen shot:

It's not showing now, but the transponder was on.

That was using ADSBExchange. Unlike flightradar I don't think that services uses satellite data - so planes tend to disappear where they don't have coverage (oceans etc).

There's a toggle button ("U") on the interface to filter and show only military planes.  But it was showing military planes (US, Aus, others) flying in and out of Kabul a couple of days ago.  However maybe turning the plane transponder off when over Afghanistan is safer than leaving them on?  I don't know.
