Stuff

Covid-19 has emerged among protesters at Parliament, with at least two cases confirmed by the Ministry of Health on Wednesday.

Thats very much fake news (unintentionally) Given the proximity, mask free, it will be all of them. And how many of "them" follow the rules and get a test????? Maybe two for some unknown reason.

I think it's from testing people arrested but not 100% sure

Yes, probably. 120 were arrested ages ago, just a few since, but it will be all through them

Great, now Tamaki and co wants his followers and other antivaxxers to hold a "family-friendly funday protest" 🙄 part of which involves walking over the Auckland Harbour Bridge.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-omicron-parliament-protest-police-move-in-again-after-barrier-moved-occupiers-warn-of-weekend-resurgence/NCVV5MPNTVVB4D64RVMZ7DUW6E/

Again, why should the majority have to put up with the (very small) minority's interruptions again? He bangs on about "freedoms" but he's actually stopping me from going over the bridge!

So the Governments attack on Primary Health care continues.

In a backtrack against what was promised, the Government will now not make RATS available to pharmacies for dispatch unless people meet specific criteria, but instead have unilaterally decided GP's will perform this function, supervised only. RATS supervised take around twice as long (including paperwork and the 15 minutes waiting time required for the result) of the PCR testing, whilst having reduced the fee they will pay GP's to 1/3 of the current payment per test.

This along with the way they have portrayed Primary caregivers in the press and in comments, along with this being the 4th major 'job' added to GP's workloads without compensation, just shows how little the Government values the people who were at the coal face of the pandemic response for NZ.

How are we this deep into this phase of the pandemic and the 'how to actually get a RAT' is bouncing around like this?

Incompetence.

Add to this the poor communication from the government over who can go to a pharmacy and you have piles of covid positive people turning up for a RAT from a pharmacy who aren't allowed a test.

My wife says their phones are ringing off the hook for people expecting to be able to turn up today and get a RAT to take home and test themselves. Staff have been abused when told they can't take them home.

Entirely avoidable.

The worst part about it, was, they didn't have to do that much, they could have followed the lead of the countries who had it before.

The whole RATS thing has been an issue in their independent reports for some time now as well.

Does your wife know yet if they are Clinical packs or Self-Test packs?  I am wondering if NZ has an abundance of clinical tests and a real lack of self test packs.  For those who don't know the difference, the buffers for the Professional  test are in bulk and need to be measured out, vs a self test has everything needed contained in a small packet ie. you cant 'F' it up.

All of this of course does not explain why Pharmacy cannot continue to do it like they were..

I can find out. The pack we were given at the testing station was a small self-contained box x 4.

GPs worried that RATs will cause spats

The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners is frustrated that general practices have not received sufficient time to prepare for the increased use of Rapid Antigen Test (RATs) in practices and are worried about unnecessary stress being placed on an already under pressure workforce.

President of the College Dr Samantha Murton says, "We agree that the use of Rapid Antigen Tests is a necessary and welcome shift as we move to modify our approach to COVID-19 and the Omicron outbreak.
"However, we have great concern that the public will immediately expect access to RATS and become upset when they are not widely available.

"General practices in Auckland were only informed late last night that they should be switching to RATs as their primary testing model from today, but there are many practices who have yet to receive supplies of the tests beyond what they need for staff or at all.

"Overnight changes to any business are rarely possible, and when you add in the heightened anxiety of the people we are serving, it is all too likely that general practice staff will bear the brunt of the emotional distress of the community.

The healthcare needs of New Zealanders are the top priority for general practitioners and the workforce will continue to provide comprehensive community care to all who need it. However, pivoting a whole system overnight is not possible.

Underlined area in case you think I am being unreasonable toward the Government in complaining about their treatment of Primary Health Organizations.
