K8Toledo:

We should probably avoid bringing conspiracy theories into the discussion.

If I say something that outrageous then it's satire, not a conspiracy theory. See also my reply to freitasm.

We live in an age where reality and fiction sre somehow indistinguishable. So if it is a joke, mark it as such.

My opinion.

Im not old enough to have seen a lot of wars but old enough to have seen the news as a nipper and older. My dad was in the Navy, told me a lot about the Malaysian Conflict he was in. See Vietnam on the TV, IRA, that was almost normal for me at that young age. Its now 2022. PRNK, ok we get that. Be naughty, get told off, get fed oil and food. But the more I watch the current war, its like what many victims must have gone through in WW2, but yet it's 2022 now. Its unreal, and more importantly, and globally, a line needs to be drawn.

The illiterate homeless alcoholic cat lady who lives in the sewer is a more accurate news source than Fox News.

Hmm, I agree sort of.  Ive switched to and from from CNN to Fox and I find it fine. Same anti Putin pro Ukraine news but different guests and video.

Despite the extreme division, whether that be the US or globally, this conflict has been exceedingly united. The divided US or the divided globe. United. To me thats a good thing. Do I expect the united ness to endure?  No. But at least the un-united now have a line. A common theme.

The problem isn’t the quality of Fox’s news reporting, but the mixing of news and editorialising opinion with no clear delineation between the two. Fox actively pursues a specific political agenda, and all its programming is subservient to that. If the news that is being reported on does not conflict with any special interests, it is likely to be relatively accurate. But this cannot be depended on. I place my trust in the cat lady.

Edit: Also, Fox just really irritates me.

Ive read or heard that (the Z) , victory. Plus im SURE its also to delineate Russian/Belarusian/Ukrainian weaponry as they are similar, as all have USSR roots

Wikipedia will have to suffice as a source.

According to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the following symbols and corresponding meanings have been used by the Russian Armed Forces during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine:[3]

The invasion has acquired the nickname "Operation Z", derived from the "Z" symbol.[4] Notably, the symbol is in the form of the Latin letter Z, instead of the Cyrillic letter З.[5]

Meaning

On Instagram, the Russian Ministry of Defence stated that the "Z" symbol is an abbreviation of the phrase "for the victory" (Russian: за победу, romanized: za pobedu),[6] while the "V" symbol stands for "our strength is in truth" [ru] (Russian: сила в правде, romanized: sila v pravde) and "the task will be completed" ("Russian: задача будет выполнена, romanized: zadacha budet vypolnena").[7][8]

Another less certain interpretation is the use of the Russian word for west (Russian: запад, tr. zapad), either to designate the Western Military District, west-bound infantry or more generally to underline the Kremlin's imperial ambitions.[9][10][11] This term was used in the Zapad joint military exercises between Belarus and Russia before the invasion.

Armed Forces of Ukraine guide to Russian military symbols

The above is taken from a Ukranian Armed Forces handbook.

I certainly get that. Ive just found that with this war, they are fine. Same deal as CNN, reporting Putins corruption. Different expert guests, different videos, I find them both complementary

Putin is apparently not a Godless Dictator.

Seems the Russian Orthadox Church is in lockstep with Putin, on this and other things.

The Patriarch who's in lockstep with Putin

""
Instead, in his first public statement following the Russian attack, Kirill could only "deeply empathise with everyone affected by this tragedy", as though Ukrainians are victims of a flood or earthquake.

Kirill's voice matters as the head of Russia's largest religious body – which claims Ukraine as its "canonical territory" – an which is deeply-intertwined with agenda of Vladimir Putin and that of his regime. .
""
Kirill has long echoed Putin's core claim underlying his war: denial of the existence of a distinct Ukrainian people.
""
Ukrainian defenders are battling Russian invaders but, according to Kirill, the conflict is actually between a mythically-united Rus people ("Rus" is the medieval entity from which both the modern Russians and Ukrainians descend), and "external enemies". These powerful unnamed actors, according to Kirill, have been trying to force the residents of the Donbass to hold a "gay parade".
""

Putin may be looking at Sainthood.
Also not waiting so long for the rapture, but I'd be very sure his cabinet would like to live a bit longer.

Note that there are three very different things all branded as Fox: Fox Business, which is a somewhat more right-wing version of the Wall Street Journal, there's Fox News on the web which is well below the level of reliable media (NYT, LA Times, etc) but still reasonably OK, and then there's Fox News video and the closely related Tucker Carlson and further down Trump's Brain, Hannity, close cousin to Infowars. I mentioned WSWS in comparison to Fox News video, another site that's considerably more reliable than Fox video is (or was) Russia Today. The official propaganda outlet of the Russian Government is considerably more reliable (accurate) than Fox News video.

So it really depends which Fox you're referring to. If it's on Fox Business you can take it to the bank. if it's on Fox News web you can take it to read on the bus. It it's on Fox News video/Hannity you can take to the Unite the Right rally.

Analysis of the Russian military's underperformance so far.  I guess Russian doctrine hasn't changed all that much in 80 years.

"a dissection of the Russian military’s performance so far, compiled from interviews with two dozen American, NATO and Ukrainian officials, paints a portrait of young, inexperienced conscripted soldiers who have not been empowered to make on-the-spot decisions, and a noncommissioned officer corps that isn’t allowed to make decisions either. Russia’s military leadership, with Gen. Valery Gerasimov at the top, is far too centralized; lieutenants must ask him for permission even on small matters, said the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss operational matters.

In addition, the Russian senior officers have proved so far to be risk-averse, the officials said.

Their caution partly explains why they still don’t have air superiority over all of Ukraine, for example, American officials said. Faced with bad weather in northern Ukraine, the Russian officers grounded some Russian attack planes and helicopters, and forced others to fly at lower altitudes, making them more vulnerable to Ukrainian ground fire, a senior Pentagon official said.

“Most Russian capabilities have been sitting on the sidelines,” said Michael Kofman, director of Russia studies at CNA, a defense research institute, in an email. “The force employment is completely irrational, preparations for a real war near nonexistent and morale incredibly low because troops were clearly not told they would be sent into this fight.”

Russian tank units, for instance, have deployed with too few soldiers to fire and protect the tanks, officials said. The result is that Ukraine, using Javelin anti-tank missiles, has stalled the convoy headed for Kyiv by blowing up tank after tank.

Thomas Bullock, an open source analyst from Janes, the defense intelligence firm, said Russian forces have made tactical errors that the Ukrainians have been able to capitalize on.

“It looks like the Ukrainians have been most successful when ambushing Russian troops,” Mr. Bullock said. “The way the Russians have advanced, which is that they have stuck to main roads so that they can move quickly, not risk of getting bogged down in mud. But they are advancing on winding roads and their flanks and supply routes are overly exposed to Ukrainian attacks.”
