You are seeing things that are not there. Try Occam's Razor instead of Godwin's Law.

johno, it's very much there. It's the very definition of the Nazi salute: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_salute

The Nazi salute, also known as the Hitler salute,[a] or the Sieg Heil salute, is a gesture that was used as a greeting in Nazi Germany. The salute is performed by extending the right arm from the shoulder into the air with a straightened hand

Given his support for AfD in Germany, and let's not forget Trump, he, of all people, should be attempting to avoid even the implication of support for that particular idealogy. But no, he stands behind the Seal of the President of the United States of America and does it.

That there is anyone who can sit here with a straight face and say that is not appalling and unacceptable really shocks me. I especially expected better among GZers.

He clearly bangs his chest/heart and then throws his hand out to signify "giving his heart".

The Nazi salute does not start with banging your chest.

You can take offence to anything you like, it is your choice, but please offer others the same curtesy and refrain from using comments like "I especially expected better among GZers". You are insinuating your opinion is "better" than mine.

IMO the big problem in our society today is the intolerance to others with differing opinions.

I think you are either mistaken about "giving his heart" or being an innocent gesture. Either way, it seems you and others are rationalising it as an innocent gesture to avoid accepting the obvious.

It's like people saying white nationalists using the OK hand sign is just people giving the OK hand sign, and not actually using it to signify WP.

You can rationalise all you want. Let's talk again in a few months.

Yep, more than happy to agree to disagree. Perhaps I am just an optimist and assume that was not his intention.

As you say, time will tell.

He actually says "My heart goes out to you" if you watch the full clip.

Also while we are taking single frames out of context:

We really do need to be careful with reactions I guess.....

Source for that image?

And it's not a "single frames out of context". Watch the video.

Watch the clip. He says "And I just wanna say thank you for making it happen. Thank you."

If disinformation is going to start seeping, then I will start banning people.

Yep, everyone loves to be "offended" or "outraged" - it appears to be an unexpected side effect of the impact social media is having on us as a society.

I have the greatest respect for you Mauricio, but please skip to 59 seconds in this clip for confirmation: (Not disinformation!)

You watched the Fox News feed he shared. You can hear him going "Hummm" while the camera is panning around the crowd. After this he does a salute to the people in the back. He then continues "my heart goes out to you".

Now, watch the other link posted before. That clip shows him instead of the crowd. He says "And I just wanna say thank you for making it happen. Thank you.", does the nazi salute and then "Hummmm".

The Fox clip doesn't show the action, only the audio.

Watch from around 50s.

What TechSol said is not disinformation. Even if it was disinformation, banning is not the answer. It is each individuals responsibility to do their own research and make their own "informed" decisions. Freedom of speech, more now than ever, is critical to ensuring we don't all end up living in echo chambers.

IMO threatening to ban people for providing reasoning for arguments which differ from your own, is the very reason Musk bought Twitter in the first place.

Doesn't that show his intention with the gesture tho?

@SumnerBoy read my reply above.

The "my heart goes out to you" comes after he does the salute. The clip doesn't even show the salute.

This one does https://x.com/bandrui0/status/1881433237530288537?mx=2

Yeah, Fox News cut away during the action. AP stayed on him the whole time. This has been widely covered on other platforms like Reddit and quite resoundingly disproves that it was an innocent gesture.

No. The words come after the gesture. It would be different if the words came before.
