The NY Times - Vance Ignites Outrage in Britain With ‘Random Country’ Comment

04 March 2025

Vice President JD Vance has sparked a storm of criticism in Britain after declaring that an American economic deal in Ukraine was a “better security guarantee than 20,000 troops from some random country that hasn’t fought a war in 30 or 40 years.”

Britain, which along with France has pledged troops to a peacekeeping force in Ukraine, fought with the United States in Iraq and Afghanistan, while French troops fought in Afghanistan. No other countries have said they would send troops to Ukraine.

Vance diplomacy strikes again!  😟

I'm guessing most of us in New Zealand don't follow American mid-west politics. This is the heartland of Trump voters.

Wyoming has less than 2% the population of California, but both have two senators.

In the US, there's supposed to be separation between church and state.

Recently Oklahoma's State Superintendent of Public Instruction initiated a controversial plan to incorporate Bibles into public school classrooms across the state. The bibles he specification tailored it so only Trump Bibles could be purchased, at $60 versus typically under $10.

In Kansas, there's been several controversies. Twice Gideon representative were sought and invited to hand out Bibles in school, a public school used Christian worship songs and incorporated Bible lessons into the curriculum,.

Also in Kansas, a book titled "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" by Sherman Alexie was removed because of mature content: discussions of systemic racism, poverty on Native American reservations, and historical mistreatment of Indigenous peoples. It also talked about puberty and sexual thoughts (no sexual acts).

In response, a parent requested the Bible be removed, because of mature content like rape, murder, incest and much more. The Bible removal request was rejected.

This year, Idaho legislators introduced a bill that would require daily readings of 20 verses from the King James Bible in all public school classrooms.

Idaho Governor signed into law a bill that bans the use of pronouns in schools that do not align with a student's gender assigned at birth.

Idaho enacted a law that allows the public to restrict access to materials in libraries and schools deemed very broadly as "harmful to minors." Libraries were forced to remove literary classics like "Slaughterhouse-Five" and "A Clockwork Orange."

Good job. Throw the book at these deplorables.

A spokesperson for the Freedom and Rights Coalition said the Te Atatū Community Centre protest "was not a Destiny Church event", nor a ManUp event.

"The protest was organised by The Freedoms & Rights Coalition team in West Auckland. It was attended by some individuals who are a part of Destiny Church, and also many individuals who are not a part of Destiny Church," they said.

"Destiny Church will therefore not be providing any comment at this time."

The Freedom & Rights Coalition was founded by Destiny Church leader Brian Tamaki.

Oh, I'm sure there's absolutely no connection at all 🙄 they just all happened to be wearing "Man Up" (lol) shirts by pure coincidence? Spare me.

Not a terribly interesting video, but a follow up to "Idaho teacher ordered to remove "Everyone is welcome here" sign from classroom"

Some classic American mid-west justification by using "pep-rally" sports metaphor.

Reminds me of Rudy Giuliani’s Speech on 6 Jan 6, 2021: “let’s have trial by combat”

or Tony Hayward, BP CEO at the time, after a catastrophic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico that killed 11 people and devastated ecosystems: “I’d like my life back”

or President George W. Bush’s “Mission Accomplished” speech declaring major combat operations in Iraq were over.

Speaking of pep-rally speeches, when does Trump's executive order to revert the 2019 Washington Redskins football team name back?

Marco Rubio who once said about Trump :

"For years to come, there are many people on the right... that are going to be having to explain and justify how they fell into this trap of supporting Donald Trump."

“the most vulgar person to ever aspire to the presidency.”

“I will make this promise to you today, I will do whatever it takes....Donald Trump, a con artist, will never get control of this party...We cannot allow a con artist to get access to the nuclear codes of the United States of America.”

Now Little Marco, closer to Trumps boots so as to better lick them.

Gets a tiny Red Carpet leading into a puddle, Canada welcomes a steadfast ally (not).
Respect a 2 way street.

Maybe Trump had the air force bring a tiny red carpet, a joke at Elon's suggestion.
Donny I'll make you an EdgeLord yet.

The Washington Post - RFK Jr. is spewing childish libertarian nonsense

19 March 2025

Vaccines are not a “personal choice.” We give up some personal freedoms so we all stay alive.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. needs to stop saying vaccines are “a personal choice.”

They’re not. Speed limits aren’t a personal choice. Smoking on airplanes isn’t a personal choice. Paying taxes isn’t a personal choice. In wartime, the draft isn’t a personal choice. ...

Sacrifices are what make us a nation instead of 340 million selfish hunter-gatherers. Each of us gives up some personal freedoms so we all stay alive. Opposing lifesaving mandates is childish libertarian nonsense.

Sadly, our top health official is a childish libertarian.

Speed limits are enforced in law. Vaccination is a personal and parental choice in USA as far as I'm aware. Like it is in most places.

The Health Secretary is responsible for providing accurate information and as public health requires advocating vaccination. It's a good guess RFK Jr isn't going to do either of those things. Looks like he'd also like to be the Secretary of Agriculture:

New Republic: Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. thinks that the bird flu should be allowed to spread unchecked to identify birds that could be immune. Kennedy said in a recent Fox News interview that farmers “should consider maybe the possibility of letting it run through the flock so that we can identify the birds, and preserve the birds that are immune to it,” an idea that experts say would be dangerous and hurt the poultry industry. “That’s a really terrible idea, for any one of a number of reasons,” Dr. Gail Hansen, a former state veterinarian for Kansas,

We can only hope that not one of the 170,000 odd chicken farms in the USA considers that possibility for profit in the case of an outbreak.

Parents Whose Child Died of Measles Spark Outrage With Response: Yahoo
...
The parents, who belong to a Mennonite community in West Texas, claimed that if patients battling the measles had access to untested treatments, then the MMR vaccine would be unnecessary.
...
When asked if they still prefer the tragic outcome rather than just take the MMR vaccine, the parents didn't hesitate.

"Absolutely [do] not take the MMR [vaccine]," the mother said. "The measles wasn't that bad. [The other children] got over it pretty quickly."
...
The couple's 6-year-old daughter is the first child to die during the 2025 outbreak that public health experts warn could soon become a nationwide epidemic. The 6-year-old experienced the typical symptoms: fever, respiratory difficulty, and a rash. She struggled to breathe days later and her fever persisted. When her breathing grew labored, the parents rushed her to the hospital, where she was admitted with pneumonia. The child was eventually placed on a ventilator in intensive care before she died.

I hope they die old and lonely, as the other 4 children have completely ostracised them upon discovering what has happened to one of their siblings .

May the parents remaining years be as painful and miserable as those suffered in the last few weeks of the 6 yo.
