The NY Times - Carlson’s Text That Alarmed Fox Leaders: ‘It’s Not How White Men Fight’

02 May 2023

A text message sent by Tucker Carlson that set off a panic at the highest levels of Fox on the eve of its billion-dollar defamation trial showed its most popular host sharing his private, inflammatory views about violence and race.

The discovery of the message contributed to a chain of events that ultimately led to Mr. Carlson’s firing.

In the message, sent to one of his producers in the hours after violent Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, Mr. Carlson described how he had recently watched a video of a group of men - Trump supporters, he said - violently attacking “an Antifa kid.” ...

[In public filings, this text remains blacked out.]

That's disgusting. Of course, if it was one of his own kids, his thinking would be totally the opposite.

These idiots are the ones who believe "antifa" are there to end the world for them. They don't see the irony of "antifa" meaning "anti-fascist" and generally means someone fighting for rights.

Carlson’s moral musings are on the level of a reptile. It is hard to fathom how anyone can be so utterly lacking in insight of any kind, but I am feeling generous so will give him a clue – a big, steel-plated clue in the butt:

Tucker, you aptly-named dog’s breakfast, the issue is not whether you feel good about someone you disagree with having the ‘shit beat of him’ by a mob. The issue is why you think anyone with any ideas you don’t like should be subjected to violence. Would your warped sense of ‘fairness’ be satisfied if only one non-white thug was beating the kid up?

Even though you totally misunderstand and misuse the Antifa term, your real moral failing is not ‘reducing people to their politics’. It is thinking that
someone who believes something you don’t is a creep you would hate if you knew him personally.

Tucker, you truly are a pile of excrement.

TPM: Deadbeat Alert! Rudy Says He Can’t Afford To Search Own Records

Debts appear to be mounting for Rudy Giuliani, as two judges over recent weeks have heard claims that the Trump attorney can’t pay his bills.

Giuliani argued this week, for instance, that he can’t afford to conduct some document searches as part of a defamation suit filed against him by Georgia polls worker Ruby Freeman.

In a declaration submitted in the case, Giuliani said that he would have to pay more than $320,000 “to become current on my arrearage” with legal document host TrustPoint One and to “have access to the documents as well costs incurred in searching the documents again for additional files requested by Plaintiffs.”

“I do not have the funds to pay this amount at this time,” he said in the declaration.

Attorneys for Giuliani said that they want Freeman, who the former NYC mayor falsely accused of being involved in an extensive voter fraud scheme, to cover the costs of the search.

The documents that Giuliani says he can’t afford to sift through encompass electronic records seized by the FBI in April 2021 searches of his apartment and offices. Giuliani unconvincingly argued in the court filing that he had “no recollection of texting or messaging prior to April of 2021 regarding Plaintiffs or the 2020 Election controversy in Fulton County, Georgia.”

Freeman and her daughter Shaye Moss have faced a torrent of abuse from the MAGA right after Giuliani and President Donald Trump alleged without any basis that a video showed the pair carrying out a scheme to mess with Georgia’s vote.

Maybe he also should have thought twice before opening his big, lying mouth, like his hero the orange buffoon.

Didn't Rudy want $20k a day doing Trump's work on this election fraud crap at one point? I seem to recall the figure Trump wanted to pay him however was closer to $0, so I guess it's no surprise Rudy has no money. Ditto Sidney Powell.

The real question is if Trump supports them. I think not. Just more disposables for the scrap heap. Why his worshippers keep thinking they will be different is a mystery.

The Washington Post - The 5-Minute Fix - Explaining seditious conspiracy

today

The former leader and three other members of the Proud Boys, a far-right group with a history of violence, were found guilty Thursday of seditious conspiracy for their involvement in the attack, after a months-long trial. ...

It’s the most serious charge leveled at Jan. 6 defendants. It means to “conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States,” and it carries a maximum of 20 years in prison.

It is a category reserved for "crimes that threaten the very stability of the republic” ...

The government has found it particularly useful with regard to Jan. 6.

Leaders of the Oath Keepers, a self-styled militia group, were also found guilty of [seditious conspiracy] earlier this year.

It’s been so successful that analysts think the government could be looking into whether Trump can be charged with seditious conspiracy.

The Washington Post - Judicial activist directed fees to Clarence Thomas’s wife, urged ‘no mention of Ginni'

04 May 2023

Conservative judicial activist Leonard Leo arranged for the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to be paid tens of thousands of dollars for consulting work just over a decade ago, specifying that her name be left off billing paperwork, according to documents reviewed by The Washington Post

In January 2012, Leo instructed the GOP pollster Kellyanne Conway to bill a nonprofit group he advises and use that money to pay Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, the documents show. The same year, the nonprofit, the Judicial Education Project, filed a brief to the Supreme Court in a landmark voting rights case. ...

In all, according to the documents, the Polling Company paid Thomas’s firm, Liberty Consulting, $80,000 between June 2011 and June 2012 ...

The arrangement reveals that Leo, a longtime Federalist Society leader and friend of the Thomases, has functioned not only as an ideological ally of Clarence Thomas’s but also has worked to provide financial remuneration to his family.

And it shows Leo arranging for the money to be drawn from a nonprofit that soon would have an interest before the court.

The Washington Post - At least eight Trump electors have accepted immunity in Georgia investigation

05 May

At least eight of the 16 Georgia Republicans who convened in December 2020 to declare Donald Trump the winner of the presidential contest despite his loss in the state have accepted immunity deals from Atlanta-area prosecutors investigating alleged election interference, according to a lawyer for the electors.

Prosecutors with the office of Fulton County District Attorney Fani T. Willis (D) told the eight that they will not be charged with crimes if they testify truthfully in her sprawling investigation into efforts by Trump, his campaign and his allies to overturn Joe Biden’s victory in Georgia ...

The electors who accepted immunity did so without any promise that they would offer incriminating evidence in return, and they all have stated that they remain unified in their innocence and are not aware of any criminal activity among any of the electors ...

The Independent: Florida governor DeSantis celebrates wins at end of busy legislative session
...
[Future GOP presidential candidate and Florida governor ] DeSantis in recent weeks signed a law to ban abortion at six weeks of pregnancy and another to allow people to carry concealed guns without a permit. He expanded what critics call his “Don't Say Gay” law that now blocks classroom instruction about sexual orientation and gender identity for all grades. And in the coming days, he will sign a law banning diversity, equity and inclusion programs in state colleges, along with another bill that prevents students and teachers from being required to use pronouns that don’t correspond to someone’s sex.

The governor has also used the power of his office to seize partial control of Disney World, one of his state's largest employers, which spoke out against the “Don't Say Gay” law.

And as the 2024 presidential contest heats up, he's eager to celebrate his accomplishments.

“When I became governor, the first day, sat in the office, I kind of just looked around and I thought to myself, ’I don’t know what SOB is going to succeed me in this office, but they ain’t going to have much to do because we’re getting all the meat off the bone,” he said during a Thursday news conference about fishing dates.

DeSantis' unapologetic conservative shift, an evolution years in the making, positions him well among GOP presidential primary voters, who tend to be fiercely partisan. But it has sparked concerns among others, including donors, GOP officials and even some moderate Democrats, who initially welcomed DeSantis' approach but now fear that his crusade to champion conservative culture may alienate as many people as it attracts.

“His unrelenting focus on the cultural issues more than the economic issues gets to be tiresome,” said longtime Republican donor Bobbie Kilberg. “I think people over time will want someone who does not add to the scenario of pushing people further and further and further apart."

DeSantis is poised to launch a presidential bid as soon as next week, though allies believe that a formal announcement, which could begin with an exploratory committee, is more likely to come around the end of May.
