What a surprise, Rudy's lawyer drops him, as Rudy himself is taking a page out of Trump's I-never-pay-my-laywer-anything-even-if-they-win book:

Well he has finally made his move:
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis files to run for president in 2024
Not a bad summary of his chances:
Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
The Washington Post - Opinion - Congress decides what it can investigate, not Harlan Crow
24 May 2023
Harlan Crow, the Texas billionaire who lavished gifts and favors on Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, isn’t a member of Congress, but Crow - through his lawyer - asserts that Congress lacks a “valid legislative purpose” in seeking information about their relationship.
Crow isn’t a Supreme Court justice, but he also asserts that Congress would be violating the constitutional separation of powers if it were to dare to apply ethics rules to the high court.
Crow attorney Michael D. Bopp sent a highhanded letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee Monday that could be condensed to two words: "go away". ...
“After careful consideration, we do not believe the Committee has the authority to investigate Mr. Crow’s personal friendship with Justice Clarence Thomas. Most importantly, Congress does not have the constitutional power to impose ethics rules and standards on the Supreme Court. Doing so would exceed Congress’s Article I authority and violate basic separation of powers principles.” ...

The Washington Post - Ron DeSantis’s 2024 kickoff on Twitter plagued by technical issues
24 May 2023
MIAMI - Ron DeSantis and his allies worked to build momentum ahead of a long-expected presidential campaign launch on Wednesday ...
But the novel “Twitter Spaces” announcement with Elon Musk that the Florida governor’s team had hyped as the culmination of his big day was plagued by glitches in the evening.
The live chat came to a halt after roughly 20 minutes of mostly silence; by the time it restarted and DeSantis began his remarks, hundreds of thousands of listeners had peeled off. ...
The online event beset with technical problems drew ridicule from DeSantis critics in both parties. * ...

CNN had a rather scathing review as well. Trump must be absolutely beside himself to be handed a gift (to his campaign) like this disaster of a launch:
https://edition.cnn.com/2023/05/25/politics/desantis-embarrassing-campaign-launch/index.html
If I was De Santis, I would have done a video recording (not just audio) maybe in an infomercial style, and run it across as many TV networks as possible, preferably during primetime. Doing it this way is only really going to capture people who were going to vote for him already anyway, and I get the feeling he did it this way to do it "on the cheap", as TV advertising is quite expensive.
It's a bit like Trump's rallies (or any politician, I guess) - if you don't like Trump, you're obviously not going to pay money to attend a rally and hear him speak. Ditto Biden. Or De Santis.
The Washington Post - Opinion - DeSantis should learn from one of the biggest blunders in American marketing
25 May 2023
Wednesday evening’s overthought and underprepared glitch festival on Twitter Spaces was at least a fitting coda to the preceding months.
If Ron DeSantis does not win his party’s presidential nomination, his pre-announcement campaign will be remembered for making a sow’s ear out of a silk purse.
Beginning with many advantages, the Florida governor spent months diminishing himself by positioning himself as the New Coke* of Republican politics. ...
[An anonymous Republican politician] has compared DeSantis to New Coke, with Donald Trump as the original.
In 1985, people who liked Coke as it was had no interest in a substitute, and people who did not like the original did not crave a tweaked imitation.
* a reference to the New Coke advertising fiasco of 1985 - "the most remarkable pratfall in the history of American marketing."
