Reuters - Mike Pence, former vice president, drops out of Republican presidential campaign

breaking

LAS VEGAS, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence ended his cash-strapped presidential campaign on Saturday, after struggling for months to convince Republican voters he was the best alternative to the man he once served with unswerving loyalty, Donald Trump.

Pence's surprise announcement at the Republican Jewish Coalition donor conference in Las Vegas made him the first big-name candidate to drop out. Trump is the runaway frontrunner in the race.

Wise man.   😐

An appropriate title if ever there was one:

Guardian: Johnson: “I am meant to be in control. I am the führer. I’m the king who takes the decisions.”

Conspiracy is the new black.

Guardian: Ex-MP claims her account will lay bare ‘a corruption of democracy deep at the heart of the Conservative party and in Downing Street’

I'm not sure how shooting yourself in the foot multiple times and lying about it constitutes a plot but good luck with joining the dots.

For some reason John Cleese can't believe Johnson is joining him on crazed conspiracy channel GBNews

So why did Cleese join the channel?
Guardian: [Cleese] said: “I met one or two of the people concerned and had dinner with them and I liked them very much. “And what they said was: ‘People say it’s the rightwing channel; it’s a free speech channel.’”

Well ok, don't be surprised then.

There are some very cashed up people around the Sue Grey, Liz Gunn Anti everything neo-Libertarians.

To recent emigree Multi-Millionaire Noel Edmunds any connection with an authority like the council makes you an enemy, so cycleway be gone.
Plus many other things swirling around him.

'You're the enemy': Noel Edmonds' cycleway rant and a meeting of conspiracy theorists

He signed off by saying: “If you can’t support the River Haven community at this pivotal time, I will understand. But I won’t forget. No threat, just fact. Love and positivity, Noel.”

The meeting in question, held at the Moutere Hills Community Centre, was attended by conspiracy theorists such as lawyer Sue Grey of the NZ Outdoors and Freedom Party and Sebastian Marinkovich, West-Coast Tasman candidate for Liz Gunn’s NZ Loyal Party.

Edmonds was seen talking to Marinkovich afterwards.

He's turned into one of the conspiracy theory crowd, despite what he might think, not surprising to see he's in cahoots with nutjob Liz Gunn and her "flock". And I agree with that article - I don't see how he can call someone "the enemy" at the same as espousing the "positivity" bs that he says is his mantra. I would also question how much value he has actually added to the community - 30 new jobs in a very sparsely populated area like that? Really?

I vaguely remember seeing one of his TV shows in the late 80s and early 90s but he's hardly what I would have called "popular" in New Zealand.

Clearly no shortage of cash to fly that lot around the country.

Jenna Ellis speaks with her attorney Franklin Hogue after Ellis plead guilty

The NY Times - Opinion - Jenna Ellis Could Become a Star Witness Against Trump

29 Oct 2023

When Jenna Ellis last week became the most recent lawyer to join in an accelerating series of guilty pleas in the Fulton County, Ga., prosecution of Donald Trump and his co-conspirators, she offered a powerful repudiation of the “Big Lie” that could potentially cut the legs out from under Donald Trump’s defense, make her a star witness for prosecutors and a potent weapon against the former president’s political ambitions.

Ms. Ellis admitted that the allegations of election fraud she peddled as an advocate for the effort to overturn the 2020 election were false. ...

She pleaded guilty to a felony count of aiding and abetting the false statements made by co-defendants (including Rudy Giuliani) to the Georgia Senate about supposed voting fraud in the 2020 presidential election. ...

These lies were at the cutting edge of Mr. Trump’s assault on the election.

Both the state and federal criminal prosecutions allege that Mr. Trump and his co-conspirators knowingly deployed falsehoods like these in their schemes to overturn the election. ...

The Times (UK) - Sam Bankman-Fried trial: Crypto king blames ex-lover for going bust

31 Oct 2023

Blaming your ex-girlfriend for the collapse of a currency trading exchange and the loss of billions of dollars is a bold move.

The stakes are even higher when you are in a federal court in Manhattan facing an effective life sentence if found guilty.

But that is the hand Sam Bankman-Fried chose to play as he testified in his own defence on Monday. ...

Caroline Ellison, his on-off girlfriend, had failed to follow his repeated warnings to hedge against a downturn in crypto-currency markets, he said.

Ellison has already testified against Bankman-Fried.

Sideface: The Times (UK) - Sam Bankman-Fried trial: Crypto king blames ex-lover for going bust

His last name "Fried" seems appropriate.

Many CEO's are either completely detached from reality / psychopaths and/or narcissist.

They don't deserve their salaries

Economic Policy Institute, 2021: CEO pay has skyrocketed 1,460% since 1978, CEOs were paid 399 times as much as a typical worker in 2021

Corporate boards running America’s largest public firms are giving top executives outsize compensation packages that have grown much faster than the stock market and the pay of typical workers, college graduates, and even the top 0.1%. In 2021, we project that a CEO at one of the top 350 firms in the U.S. was paid $27.8 million on average (using a “realized” measure of CEO pay that counts stock awards when vested and stock options when cashed in and ownership is taken).
...
CEOs are even making a lot more than other very high earners (wage earners in the top 0.1%)—almost seven times as much.

From 1978 to 2021, CEO pay based on realized compensation grew by 1,460%
...
In contrast, compensation of the typical worker grew by just 18.1% from 1978 to 2021.

breaking

These charges carry a maximum sentence of 110 years.

Mr. Bankman-Fried’s sentencing is set for March 28.

The jury reached their guilty verdicts quickly.  😐

( Bankman-Fried said he “couldn’t recall” more than 140 times in response to questions on cross-examination. )
