The NY Times - 5 Times Tucker Carlson Privately Reviled Trump

08 March 2023

The Fox host’s private comments, revealed recently in court documents, contrast sharply with his support of conservatives on his show.

1. On Trump’s Business Ventures  (Nov. 6, 2020)

"All of them fail. What he’s good at is destroying things. He’s the undisputed world champion of that."

2. On Trump’s Plan to Skip Biden’s Inauguration  (Nov. 10, 2020)

"I’d heard that about the inauguration. Hard to believe. So destructive."

"It’s disgusting. I’m trying to look away."

3. On His Interactions With Trump’s Team Over Sidney Powell, a Trump Lawyer  (Nov. 23, 2020)

"I had to try to make the WH disavow her, which they obviously should have done long before."

"Pretty disgusting. And now Trump, I learned this morning, is sitting back and letting them lose the senate. He doesn’t care. I care."

4. On His Desire to Move On From Trump  (Jan. 4, 2021)

"We are very, very close to being able to ignore Trump most nights. I truly can’t wait."

"I hate him passionately."

5. On the Aftermath of the Capitol Riots  (Jan. 7, 2021)

"Trump has two weeks left. Once he’s out, he becomes incalculably less powerful, even in the minds of his supporters."

"He’s a demonic force, a destroyer. But he’s not going to destroy us. I’ve been thinking about this every day for four years."

The Washington Post - A Trump lawyer’s remarkable admission about her ‘stolen election’ claims

today

Yet another figure who promoted Donald Trump’s stolen-election claims has backed down in the face of legal scrutiny.

This time it’s the Trump campaign’s then-legal adviser, Jenna Ellis.

As part of her censure deal with the Colorado Supreme Court in a disciplinary proceeding, Ellis actually admitted to 10 specific “misrepresentations.”

Among them:

  •     Her claim to evidence of “a coordinated effort in all of these states to transfer votes either from Trump to Biden, to manipulate the ballots, to count them in secret.”
  •     Her claim of “overwhelming evidence proving this was stolen.”
  •     Her claim that, “The election was stolen and Trump won by a landslide.”
  •     Her claim that, “The proper and true victor … is Donald Trump.”
  •     Her claim that, “We have over 500,000 votes [in Arizona] that were cast illegally.”

Ellis’s commentary broadly echoed many of the Trump team’s most frequent claims. And Ellis is now admitting that none were true.

What happened to that dumbo "lawyer" Sidney Powell, anyway? Is she being sued or anything, or does she walk away, scot-free? Ditto Rudy.

The wheels of justice are turning (slowly) ...  😉

The NY Times - Michael Cohen to Testify at Grand Jury as Likely Trump Indictment Looms

breaking

Michael D. Cohen, the former fixer who for years did Donald J. Trump’s dirty work, is expected to testify before a Manhattan grand jury next week, a sign that prosecutors are poised to indict the former president for his role in paying hush money to a porn star ...

The Manhattan district attorney’s office has already questioned at least seven other people before the grand jury hearing evidence about the hush money deal ... potentially making Mr. Cohen the last witness.

Mr. Cohen’s testimony is the second strong indication that the district attorney, Alvin L. Bragg, will ask the grand jury to indict the former president, possibly as soon as this month.

The first came when Mr. Bragg’s prosecutors informed Mr. Trump’s lawyers that if he wanted to testify before the grand jury ...  such offers almost always indicate an indictment is close.

From deep in the Bible belt, where protecting children against those deviant Democrats seem to very important, from Yes magazine

"In March 2, 2023, Tennessee became the first state to enact a law restricting drag performances.

This law is part of a larger push by Republican lawmakers in numerous states to restrict or eliminate events like drag shows and drag story hours.

These legislative efforts have been accompanied by inflammatory rhetoric—not grounded in fact—about the need to protect children from “grooming” and sexually explicit performances."

Rolling Stones: Republican Lieutenant Governor explains liking gay nudes: ‘I Try to Encourage People’

The Tennessee Holler reported on Wednesday then 76 year old Lieutenant Governor McNally has repeatedly interacted with the Instagram page of then 17 year old Franklyn McClur, who grew up in Knoxville and routinely posts provocative images of himself, often nude. “Finn, you can turn a rainy day into rainbows and sunshine!” McNally commented on a close-up shot of McClur’s backside in formfitting underwear.
...
I try to encourage people with posts and try to, you know, help them if I can,” McNally explained. “I was basically trying to encourage him.”

McNally was then asked about McClur characterizing himself as “not a WH0RE” but “a HOE” because “one is a SLUT and the other is a PROSTITUTE” and that he’s “the one who gets free weed for giving [a reference to a sexual act].”

“A lot of times on peoples’ posts you see the name and you see what they’ve written and you press the button that says like,” McNally explained.

“So you didn’t read that post?”

“I don’t recall reading the part about the weed, I know that.”

“But what about the prostitute?”

“I might have read that.”

McNally acknowledged that it was “probably not” appropriate to like that particular post.

The lieutenant governor’s infatuation with McClur isn’t new. He started messaging him back in 2020, when McClur was only 17.

In 2021, a report released by the Attorney General of New York, Letitia James, detailed accusations of sexual assault by Governor Cuomo and his attempts to silence victims. In the face of almost certain removal from office, he announced his resignation as Governor.

Anyhow Latest "Family Guy" episode had a joke about the former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Here's some background on the joke.

The Guardian - Tucker Carlson firestorm over Trump texts threatens to engulf Fox News   [no paywall]

13 March 2023

Tucker Carlson was once seen as untouchable.

Now the most popular TV host on American cable news is at the center of a firestorm threatening to engulf Fox News and also anger Donald Trump, whose conspiracy theory-laden political cause he has long championed and who his audience loves. ...

Many people – including some Republicans – reacted with outrage to Carlson’s [recent] broadcasts, which chimed with a broader far-right push in the US to recast the January 6 attack on the Capitol as an overly enthusiastic demonstration and the hundreds of people jailed for it as political prisoners. ...

Carlson likes controversy. He remains hugely powerful, and may be beyond the reach or will of the organization to rein in. He has survived controversies over racist comments and his embracing of tenets of white nationalism.

A couple of stories from around the web today:

https://news.yahoo.com/went-cpac-maga-supporters-pulse-122751559.html >> a reporter goes to the CPAC thing to see what Republicans on the ground are really like, and what motivates/scares them

Truth at last. Here is a Fox cockroach sneeringly dismissing their own viewers as 'cousin-f*cking dumb'.

Here's an expected result from a poll, from the angry party.

The Hill: Only three in 10 Republicans say best days are still ahead for US: poll

Just three in 10 Republicans and Republican-leaning independents surveyed in a new poll say they think that the best days are still ahead for the United States.

The CNN survey, taken earlier this month, found 70 percent of Republican respondents think America’s best days are in the past.

It’s a sharp charge from September 2019, when Republicans controlled the White House and the Senate. At the time, those in the party reported feeling more optimistic about the country’s future: 77 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents said the best days of the nation were ahead and just 18 percent said those days were behind them.

Five Thirty Eight: Republicans Lawmakers Are Trying To Ban Drag. First They Have To Define It

A drag queen battle has emerged at many statehouses this year, but not the kind of lip-sync battle royale you might see on “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” So far this legislative session, Republican lawmakers in at least 16 states have introduced bills that seek to restrict or criminalize drag performances. These bills range from restricting state funding from being used for drag shows to banning Sunday drag brunches. In Tennessee, one such bill limiting drag shows in public has already passed the legislature and been signed into law (by a governor who once wore drag).

Critics of these bills say they are a blatant attack on the LGBTQ community, could put trans individuals at risk and in some cases are unconstitutional. A close reading reveals part of what makes these bills both dangerous and legally dubious: Drag is not easy to define. FiveThirtyEight analyzed language in 29 anti-drag bills from 16 states and found lawmakers have struggled to differentiate between a drag queen and, say, a performer in a Shakespearean play or a trans person who also happens to be a singer.

Oxford University: Invisible but influential: women and the theatre in Shakespeare’s time
...
If there’s one thing we know about female actors in Elizabethan and Jacobean England it is that there weren’t any.

Women’s parts were played by boys and young men, which perhaps gave an added comic frisson to the cross-dressing in some of Shakespeare’s early plays.
