Yes, yes.
(FYI, the old guy was the husband of a senator being sworn in).
I received the following painfully topical promotion for The Guardian via email today:
Don’t leave facts to big tech
We live in a dangerous age of misinformation and disinformation. One that is often fuelled by social media.
On Tuesday, Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announced that his social media platforms - including Facebook, Instagram and Threads - would get rid of all factcheckers.
Meta’s move could make the truth even harder to find online.
In the UK, more than half of adults use social media to get their news. The number is even higher for young people. Facebook, Instagram and Elon Musk’s X make up three of the 10 biggest sources for news in the country.
Meta has said it will follow the lead of X and move away from third-party checks of misleading content in favour of user-based notes. Nobel prize-winning journalist Maria Ressa said Meta’s change in policy would lead to a “world without facts”.
Meanwhile, Musk himself, the planet’s richest man, has spent the past week using his enormous profile on his social media site to attack and spread falsehoods about elected officials in the UK.
Disinformation, as a Guardian editorial put it this week, is a “potent political weapon” that can make “voters believe falsehoods while distrusting - even hating - those who don’t”. ...

The NY Times - Giuliani Found in Contempt of Court Over Continued Defamation of Election Workers
10 Jan 2025
A federal district judge found Rudolph W. Giuliani in contempt of court on Friday for continuing to defame two Georgia women after the 2020 election.
In May, Mr. Giuliani agreed to stop repeating lies about the women, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, a mother-daughter team of election workers in Fulton County, Ga., during the 2020 race. ...
In November, Mr. Giuliani repeated accusations against the women at least four times, after Donald J. Trump won the 2024 presidential election. ...
[Judge Howell] said that Mr. Giuliani should have to reimburse Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss for the cost of bringing the contempt case.
She said she had little confidence, based on his past behavior, that he would pay what he owes and warned him that he could face jail time in the future.

So, Rudy, where's your orange Messiah now? Apart from posting on Twitter, he's...um..er...doing nothing?

Used and abused and forgotten
Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
The nut job Andrew Tate who is currently under house arrest in Romania on sex and human trafficking charges has announced he will be the new UK Prime Minister and has formed a new party. I will not link to the ranting announcement video for obvious reasons.
NDTV: Controversial social media personality Andrew Tate has set his sights on the Prime Minister's office in the UK. His political vehicle? A newly formed party called the ‘BRUV', short for ‘Britain Restoring Underlying Values'. Tate claims, “Great Britain's DOGE will be DADDY,” – short for Department of Assistance And Development Of Domestic Youth.
You can't make that up. Tate was banned from Twitter some time ago. It seems Tate's twitter account was recently restored. Some outlets are reporting that Elon Musk supports the new party. Those reports seem to be on the very thin basis that Musk has replied in relatively neutral terms to a few tweets about the subject.
One of Tate's BFF's right here:
RFK Jr already making his mark? 🙄
Prediction:
The wealthy will get vaccinated
The wealthy will then acquire any assets the poor have when they can not pay medical bills or die from preventable diseases.

The NY Times - Giuliani Fails to Appear for Trial That Will Decide Fate of Florida Home
Jan 15 2025
Rudolph W. Giuliani did not show up to federal court in Lower Manhattan to testify in a trial that will determine whether he can keep a Florida condo, his only remaining home, as well as three personalized Yankees World Series rings.
Court has been adjourned until Jan. 21, the day after President-elect Donald J. Trump’s inauguration. No reason has yet been given for Mr. Giuliani’s absence on Thursday.
It was an extraordinary development in a case where Mr. Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, has already been held in contempt of court for his failure to hand over millions of dollars in assets to settle a nine-figure defamation suit.
Two judges have warned Mr. Giuliani that further obstructions could land him in jail.

But, he's settled with them: https://edition.cnn.com/2025/01/16/politics/rudy-giuliani-georgia-election-workers-defamation-settlement/index.html
He gets to keep all his crap (which isn't worth more than $10 million at best, apparently) and has to pay them an undisclosed amount for ruining their lives. Oh and he also has to shut his stupid lying mouth and stop talking about them.
Bets on how long the second part lasts?
