Are you serious? I’ll take $1000 bets with anyone that Trump won’t attempt a third term.

when interviewed he said if he lost he won't run again, that was about a month ago. can't remember which interview

I thought what was interesting, is one commentator said that Trump has essentially been in the headlines for the last decade so was very well known with voters, for better or worse. Harris has had very little exposure, despite being VP. A pity Obama didn't run, as she had the potential to win IMO, but she didn't have enough time. But Biden should have ruled himself out for standing years ago, as there was no way he would make another 4 years. Not sure Trump will make 4 years, being obese combined with his age, being he oldest ever elected president.

well i certainly saw that coming, i predicted this on page 2 of this thread when Biden ran against Trump. I mean they have 4 years and they did nothing, allowed Biden to run again for some reason, then they told him to give it up, they put Harris in his place, the money came in but didn't change the outcome

i think the main reason was a very simple Republican narrative: that if you weren't going to vote Biden then Harris is going to do the same as Biden (same administration) so don't vote for Harris.

An analysis of what went wrong last night: https://edition.cnn.com/2024/11/06/politics/harris-campaign-went-wrong/index.html

In part it refers to your first point here that Biden should have stepped aside:

But perhaps the bigger problem with Biden, top Democrats fumed in the aftermath of that fateful debate in June and then again as they watched the results turn red on Tuesday, is that he should have never been anywhere near the 2024 race. If he had stepped aside after the midterms, as some aides urged him to, the Democratic Party process could have played out in a primary campaign. Candidates’ kinks could have been worked out – or not. Almost certainly whoever emerged as the nominee would have gone into the final weeks without so many Americans complaining they didn’t know enough, as they said about Harris. Biden could have taken on a role as steward and elder statesman, rather than a guy the Harris campaign never knew quite what do with.

no way i don't think. Biden needed to get as far away as possible, because anything to do with him was going to lose the elections for the Democrats. every time he appeared, Harris gets a set back. I can't believe CNN still can't see this.

America Hires a Strongman: New York Times

Donald Trump told Americans exactly what he planned to do.

He would use military force against his political opponents. He would fire thousands of career public servants. He would deport millions of immigrants in military-style roundups. He would crush the independence of the Department of Justice, use government to push public health conspiracies and abandon America’s allies abroad. He would turn the government into a tool of his own grievances, a way to punish his critics and richly reward his supporters. He would be a “dictator” — if only on Day 1.

And, when asked to give him the power to do all of that, the voters said yes.

This was a conquering of the nation not by force but with a permission slip. Now, America stands on the precipice of an authoritarian style of governance never before seen in its 248-year history.

johno1234: People let’s just breathe deeply and chill. The world did not end in 2016 and won’t in 2024 either.

It didn't end in 1920, 1933 or 1939 either, but it wasn't a fun time for anyone involved.

You are missing the point. He is referring to your use of disingenuous right-wing rubbish words used to describe anything you don't like.

MSNBC explains https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/trump-wins-election-results-2024-progressive-democrats-rcna178206

"perhaps voters didn’t buy her appeal to the political middle after years of standing as an unapologetic progressive." that was about Harris, they could say the same about Walz I guess.

Many Republican voters were not voting for all those things and many don't think all those things will really happen. I think this is inaccurate.

Well I'm glad I'm not young. The historic world-leaders are now teetering on economic disaster.
  • Russia: too few tax paying young people. economy is stable for now, but credit card interest on government bonds.

  • China: too few tax paying young people. One child policy and social norms has permanently screwed up gender distribution. lack of investment opportunities, and push by government, many have invested in "tofu dregs" construction real-estate. Corruption.

  • England: chaos brought by Brexit, including reigniting discussions about Scottish independence, Wales was heavily reliant on EU trade and subsidies. Northern Ireland Protocol new trade barriers and complexities. On plus side, Social Security and Pensions not as bad as others.

  • US: One right-wing party now run all branches of government. Founding fathers check-and-balances are out-the-window. Trump has promised massive tax cuts to rich, and massive tariffs.

For those retiring, things look bleak because Social Security's trust funds will be exhausted by 2033, big pharma too powerful, meaning outrageous drug prices. For young, no chance of retirement reform, because old people are too powerful block.

The German public and authorities were initially dismissive of the Brownshirts (Sturmabteilung or SA). Many Germans viewed them as thuggish vigilantes who operated outside the law.

The Nuremberg Military Tribunal described the SA as "a group composed in large part of ruffians and bullies"

Turkey
With extra lashings of stuffing.

The real power lies with the combination of Senate and House to supercharge a President.

RFK in charge of Healthcare !

Joe Rogan got his man. Peter Thiel his testosterone great leader.

More the power of Cambridge Analytica refined as wealth gets what it want's.
The new money of Elon Musk , Peter Thiel etc and the old that historically propelled the GOP.

Rupert Murdock did his bit when printed word and TV held sway, with older generation.

Now.
Social media having few of the guide-rails of old media propelling a new age of Authoritarians.

Trump was pretty good at printing money to pump up the markets so I suppose the Kiwisaver will do well so some compensation, until we get to the end of that rope.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/world-news/360478242/donald-trump-has-sweeping-plans-second-administration-heres-what-hes-proposed

Heard today he promised to end Ukraine war in 24 hours. Give Putin what he wants as no more money going your way, it seems
