She does have a bit of an uphill climb though: https://www.politico.com/news/2024/01/24/trump-5-takeaways-new-hampshire-00137511
https://www.politico.com/news/2024/01/24/south-carolina-nikki-haley-00137513 >> her home state may not be the saviour she needs, either. Mind you, I think Joe was doing like crap at this point in 2020 as well, until South Carolina became his lifeline eh?
gzt: The commentary about Haley in New Hampshire is unaccountably negative. Haley went up against Trump and polled 45% of the vote. That is a big success.
Trump is no longer unbeatable in the Republican primary. The halo of invincibility no longer shines upon him.
Agree but when a rogue and a vagabond get the % he is, my god. Americans are very very patriotic. That is a good thing, but given history, patriotism is outpacing base intelligence.
I've noticed a pattern with comments from Republicans about Trump trying to be president again - he needs to expand beyond his base:
https://edition.cnn.com/politics/live-news/new-hampshire-primary-01-23-24/index.html
(under "Here's what GOP lawmakers are saying about the state of the presidential race"):
GOP Sen. John Cornyn warned Trump that he needs to expand beyond his base. “I think if the president would pick Tim Scott as vice president, I think that would be a really good ticket,” Cornyn, who has endorsed Trump, told CNN’s Manu Raju. “After a primary, there needs to be a broader appeal than just to primary voters. You can't win with just your own base." Cornyn added that he thinks it’s time for the party to unify.
Senate Republican Whip John Thune said Trump will need to appeal beyond his base voters if he wants to win the general election in November. Asked by CNN if he is concerned Trump didn’t perform well with moderate and independent voters in Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary, Thune said: “The campaign probably realizes they've got the Republican vote locked up. And for him to win the general election. He's got to start running a general election campaign, which will mean his message is going to have to appeal to those independent voters and moderate Republicans.”
The thing is, Trump has never, ever tried to expand beyond his hardcore MAGA base before - not to Independents, and definitely not to Democrats. Will he heed the warning? My opinion is probably no.
Is the President really the most important post to win in USA?
Maybe the biggest threat to USA and World is that the House and Senate are the real power?
The House decides. what gets put to vote for funding so seems most critical.
Even if most in the house would vote for some legislation if Speaker does not put it to the vote its dead.
You can see with Biden at the moment, he is pretty much stymied as Republicans control the House.
Legislation can't be voted on without the House Speaker tabling it.
Even if majority of legislature would pass it !
Even worse it only takes a handful of Tea Party / Evangelical / MAGGA /
nutters on Republican side to make sure nothing can happen.
With all this focus on President, its does not seem to be the complete answer.
Americans also need to vote sufficient majority to democrats in House to get past their few nutters.
Or its back to nothing happening, Senate can be problematic so ideally you need all three.
The big danger is that traditional GOP voters will do bob each way.
Reject Trump, but still supporting GOP in House/Senate elections.
Middle voters who do a bob each way.
Do Americans get where real power is? News seem to focus on President only.

Lol, Trump wins every state nomination without even appearing on any debates, interviews, basically without showing up.
You think they reject Trump?
gzt: 45% of Republican primary voters in New Hampshire rejected Trump and voted for Haley.

I can easily imagine that Trump is absolutely hating on the fact that someone - especially a woman - is standing up to him and not doing what he wants her to do.
Would be nice to see her win at least one state, maybe he'll actually start taking her more seriously then 🤞
This an interesting description of how immigration has been a problem going back to Regan.
I would say well beyond.

Farming is the largest user of illegal immigrants.
Houses get built by illegals, Trumps Golf courses employed and probably still do illegals.
All kinds of day labor like lawns and gardens etc.
They are cheap, easy to hire, easy to fire, don't talk back.
The real Deep State if it exists wants the above for economic benefit.
Illegals also feed discontent to help right wing Governments along.
USA economy relies on them, keeps USA demographics balanced.
So no immigration as MAGAS say they want would be economic disaster.

He ran a ton of campaign events, rallies etc and a pile of advertising and keeping himself in the news, especially on Fox and other right wing outlets. Not to mention a lot of direct email, and social media stuff. He just rejected the things where he would have to share time and space with other candidates.
