Am I the only one suffering burn out from listening to too much disgusting tripe from he whose name

I think fair to say near all. Even the US, but oddly you dont need to win the most votes. Its where you win them that matters. It must be hard doing these campaigns like Harris is on, but she serves the people, which whilst not perfect, I believe this to be true.

Days it gets you down, days you get good news, days you hear just Bat Flap crazy stuff and ya just gotta forget the US. But make no mistake, it does effect this country in many ways. I can just see his plans for rent a military. Prices go up due to new cargo ship insurance policies, and on it  goes.

I really do hope the EU/UK can combine to start slowly becoming more autonomous, I think this is a wake up call.

If by some miracle he wins in November I'm switching off the TV, radio and internet for the next 4 years.

yeh yeh haha, im talking long term, very long.

in the mean time, what will be interesting is what would happen to things like the Quad lateral which just met, similar with 5 eyes. I think there is some commonality regardless.

Well the Fed dropping by 0.50% was a surprise, not many economists expected that given they have 2 more likely cuts this year. But some did predict so.

This could be good news all around for consumers and for Harris,

This goes back to when Biden was still running for President. Rudy Giuliani files lawsuit but fails to perform basic instructions given by judge. Results: Giuliani's case thrown out.

Law and Crime: ‘Utterly failed’: Federal judge throws out Rudy Giuliani’s defamation suit against Joe Biden for calling him a ‘Russian pawn’ during Trump debate

Because Rudy Giuliani “utterly failed” to establish personal jurisdiction in his New Hampshire defamation lawsuit against President Joe Biden, a federal judge last Friday threw out the case.

In October 2023, before he was himself found liable for defaming 2020 Georgia election workers and slapped with a $148 million judgment, Giuliani held a press conference and announced his plans to sue Biden for referring to him as a “Russian pawn” during a 2020 debate with Donald Trump

Giuliani claimed that he was falsely branded as “a Russian pawn” and a “facilitator of Russian disinformation,” damaging his law practice and consulting business (he has since been disbarred in New York and, after the $148 million judgment, he filed for bankruptcy).

“[Trump's] own national security adviser told him that what is happening with his buddy [Rudy Giuliani] — I shouldn’t — actually, I will,” Biden said in October 2020, in response Giuliani’s claims about the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop and foreign corruption. “His buddy Rudy Giuliani. He’s being used as a Russian pawn. He’s being fed information that is Russian — [Russian information that] is not true.”

Giuliani said publicly that Biden calling him a “Russian operative” is “what’s called libel, defamation per se.”

My summary of what came next: Giuliani sues Biden for libel. Biden counters with motion to dismiss. Because Giuliani has so many lawsuits going, wrongly thinks he doesn't need to respond.

The judge then warned that he would rule on the motion to dismiss unless Giuliani gave him a “legally sufficient reason to withhold action[.]”

The next docket entry was the Friday dismissal.

Another summary of what comes next: Since Giuliani didn't respond, judge throws out Giuliani lawsuit

Im not sure this statement by Ex GOP members will have been helpful for Harris.

at best it might pick up some moderates/independents.

Washington Post: Russians made video falsely accusing Harris of hit-and-run, Microsoft says

Russian propagandists are escalating attacks on the presidential campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris with false but widely circulated videos on social media, including one that featured an actor accusing Harris of a nonexistent hit-and-run that paralyzed a girl, Microsoft researchers said Tuesday.

That video was a viral hit, spread by X accounts with as a many as a half-million followers, despite first appearing on a newly minted San Francisco news outlet that soon vanished. Posts featuring the video racked up 7 million views on X alone, and were also on Facebook, TikTok and YouTube.

Another video manufactured an assault on an attendee of a rally for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, garnering millions of views, Microsoft said. One depicted a fake New York billboard with vulgar messages saying Harris wanted to change children’s gender. It drew hundreds of thousands of views on X.

ARS Technica: “Fascists”: Elon Musk responds to proposed fines for disinformation on X

Elon Musk has lambasted Australia’s government as “fascists” over proposed laws that could levy substantial fines on social media companies if they fail to comply with rules to combat the spread of disinformation and online scams.

The billionaire owner of social media site X posted the word “fascists” on Friday in response to the bill, which would strengthen the Australian media regulator’s ability to hold companies responsible for the content on their platforms and levy potential fines of up to 5 percent of global revenue. The bill, which was proposed this week, has yet to be passed.

Bill Shorten, the former leader of the Labor Party and a cabinet minister, accused the billionaire of only championing free speech when it was in his commercial interests. “Elon Musk’s had more positions on free speech than the Kama Sutra”

Tech Crunch: Here is what’s illegal under California’s 8 (and counting) new AI laws

California Governor Gavin Newsom is currently considering 38 AI-related bills, including the highly contentious SB 1047, which the state’s legislature sent to his desk for final approval. These bills try to address the most pressing issues in artificial intelligence: everything from futuristic AI systems creating existential risk, deepfake nudes from AI image generators, to Hollywood studios creating AI clones of dead performers.
...
So far, Governor Newsom has signed eight of them into law, some of which are America’s most far reaching AI laws yet.
...
Election deepfakes

Earlier this week, California’s governor signed three laws cracking down on AI deepfakes that could influence elections.

One of California’s new laws, AB 2655, requires large online platforms, like Facebook and X, to remove or label AI deepfakes related to elections, as well as create channels to report such content. Candidates and elected officials can seek injunctive relief if a large online platform is not complying with the act.

Another law, AB 2839, takes aim at social media users who post, or repost, AI deepfakes that could deceive voters about upcoming elections. The law went into effect immediately on Tuesday, and Newsom suggested Elon Musk may be at risk of violating it.

AI-generated political advertisements now require outright disclosures under California’s new law, AB 2355. That means moving forward, Trump may not be able to get away with posting AI deepfakes of Taylor Swift endorsing him on Truth Social (she endorsed Kamala Harris). The FCC has proposed a similar disclosure requirement at a national level and has already made robocalls using AI-generated voices illegal.

Cant say the man didnt hold his word despite musky's taunts.

and likewise with aussie.

When he got rid of the twitter staff, a big chunk was hands on spam/fakes etc folk I believe, since then this type of stuff has skyrocketed.

He thought san fran's twitter was too liberal yet hes so liberal he seemed ok with people influencing politics and results, who is the liberal now?

The FBI busted some accounts but surely thats just a drop in the bucket? he lost a lot of advertisers, does anybody know how many or % of revenue?

Good on Newsom I say.

Its a wonder Harris has such a high following given how many people are viewing ai and other disinformation about her. Its lucky its not shut down as its allowing election interfering or at least attempts to use manipulation to give a false "freespeech"/reality

Don't forget the "Unite for America" tonight Hosted by Oprah Winfrey, with many of the leaders of support groups for the Harris campaign popping in virtually.

8:30pm EDT US

12:30PM Sat, NZ time I think?

I dont feel Harris is getting enough coverage, but then we are not targeted by the advertising.

Im sure they know better than I, but it just doesnt feel like she has had equal presence as Trump. But then he is of the persuasion all press is good press. His name is used substantially more perhaps, often with no consequence it seems.

A few of this week's election-related cartoons for your Saturday morning:

Pretty accurate depiction of a Trump rally these days:

Finally, (speaking of Musk) a pretty accurate depiction of what Twitter has become:
