freitasm:

famous for shooting a friend in the face during a hunting expedition.

oh gosh, had forgotten about that. was kind of shocking at the time.

There is so much Ive seen beyond Pence that seems to a layman "dodgy", everyone is focused on the pence stuff to start I get it.

BUT what is more important for this thread, will this have any impact on voting if legal scholars agree it is damning?

We are probably down to independants and first time voters who can be swung at this stage, unless its so damning people dont need a court case.....

I can't remember Bill Clinton's, but George W Bush's was Dick Cheney, famous for shooting a friend in the face during a hunting expedition.

And then got an apology for it.

I remember Al Gore too. He was hated by anti-environmentalists. He was also frequently mocked in popular culture.

Unlike Republican Trump, Democrat Al Gore graciously conceded defeat.

Al Gore lost the electoral college vote to Republican George W. Bush, despite winning the popular vote.

I'm glad they sorted that problem in 2000 ... Oh wait...

Speaking of the debate, Trump was laser focused on his VP's performance, turned off his phone, and thoughtfully reflecting on the salient points of both sides.

One moment... Sorry... Here's a correction: Trump sent this during the debate, while the VP's were talking about gun legislation.

According to the timestamps, when Trump posted it, Vance was mid-question saying this: "we have to empower law enforcement to arrest the bad guys put them away and take gun offenders off the streets. I think there's a whole host of things that we can do here but I do think at our schools we've got to talk about more security"

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this, or have I missed something? Giuliani's own daughter coming out in support of Kamala Harris seems pretty newsworthy to me.

Yes, Caroline absolutely detests the orange buffoon, and I've seen her say something along the lines of "Trump has ruined my Dad, don't let him ruin America".

This is also a bit of a turnaround you definitely wouldn't have expected to see this time 4 years ago - a Republican campaigning for Harris in a swing state!

https://www.politico.com/news/2024/10/03/liz-cheney-harris-wisconsin-00182306

I do take my hat off to Liz Cheney, she stood up to Trump and affirmed her commitment to the Constitution, not him (as so many cowardly Republicans have done now).

Four prominent previously pro-Trump GOP women to make the case against him in battleground Pennsylvania: CNN

These previously pro-Trump GOP women will make the case against the reelection of former President Donald Trump in a fireside chat in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, next week
  • Former House GOP conference chair Liz Cheney

  • former Trump White House aides Alyssa Farah Griffin

  • former aid Cassidy Hutchinson

  • former aid Sarah Matthews
The event will follow Cheney’s expected Thursday appearance with Vice President Kamala Harris in Wisconsin, another critical swing state.

Cheney, Hutchinson and Matthews have endorsed Harris. Griffin, a CNN political commentator, has not, though she often uses her platforms on CNN and on “The View” to warn of the peril she sees in a second Trump term.

The October 9 event will be hosted by the group Democracy First in one of the all-important “collar counties” outside Philadelphia, in one of the most competitive battlegrounds of the 2024 presidential election. A source involved told CNN the four women will “offer a warning about the threat Donald Trump poses to democracy and the rule of law,” making the case about “the need for independents, moderates, and Republicans to stop him from getting back in office.”

The event is likely the first of many with the four GOP women to be held in battleground states. It is not an official event for the Harris-Walz campaign.

Bruce Springsteen Endorses Kamala Harris: ‘Donald Trump Is the Most Dangerous Candidate for President in My Lifetime’: Variety

Bruce Springsteen has endorsed Kamala Harris for president.

The “Born in the U.S.A.” singer, who was vocally supportive of Barack Obama and Joe Biden in their respective elections, made the announcement in a video posted to Instagram.

“Perhaps not since the Civil War has this great country felt as politically, spiritually and emotionally divided as it does than at this moment,” Springsteen said in the video, shot inside of a diner. “It doesn’t have to be this way.”

The Boss added, “Donald Trump is the most dangerous candidate for president in my lifetime. His disdain for the sanctity of our Constitution, the sanctity of democracy, the sanctity of the rule of law and the sanctity of the peaceful transfer of power should disqualify him from the office of president ever again. He doesn’t understand the meaning of this country, its history, or what it means to be deeply American.”

I just watched the Harris campaign event in Ripon Wisconsin. Harris is an okay public speaker but Liz Cheney was on fire. I don't care how conservative she is, I would vote for her any day!

The NY Times - Trump saw 2020 election results as an obstacle, not an outcome

03 Oct 2024

Three days before the 2020 election, one of former President Donald Trump’s closest advisers told a private gathering of his supporters that, no matter what happened on Election Day, the president was going to say he had won. …

Trump dismissed the real numbers.

He sidelined advisers who knew that results meant he had not won, and relied instead on the counsel of allies like Rudolph Giuliani ...

He ignored or even threatened swing state Republicans who presented him with inconvenient truths .....

As they looked for ways to gum up the electoral certification process at any level, Trump and his allies knew confusion and conjecture were their most important tools. ...

We don’t have the evidence, but we have lots of theories.” [Guiliani]

Putting false claims in the form of a lawsuit is a way to sanitize and add legitimacy” [Jessica Marsden, a lawyer at Protect Democracy, a nonpartisan group that monitors elections].

kingdragonfly:

Bruce Springsteen has endorsed Kamala Harris for president.

Mic drop, the real "Boss" has spoken. He knows how to time things :-) Here is the advert https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1i7caDEaiA

With Kamala targetting Sen Mark Kelly's comments about "Vance" being a heart beat away from president. Her latest campaign targets just that, the reality of vance a heart beat away. Here is the adv https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATVpNYeR2W4

But now more media are questioning Trumps health and age , aggggh durrrr, kinda shoulda been before the Harris debate even.

Trump refuses to release medical records as concerns about him being the oldest possible president grow | The Independent

With all the pro Harris endorsements plus the Jan 6 evidence plus people finally questioning the health of Don.

But could it get worse, well many say Vance lost the debate in the final 45 seconds when he bumbled the question around the 2000 election result. He now doubles down on it. Vance says Trump won the 2020 election - then doubles down on the lie in new interview | The Independent

I honestly thought Kamala was failing to prosecute Trump in these elections but shes put 5 or so adverts together last few days that i assume are aiming for this key timing one month out, with her  spending doubling his most of the time. He is well outspent on all mediums but especially digitial.

Just as she is starting to use adverts that Prosecute the case as to WHY he is unfit for office (literal pun not meant but will take it lol).

Look at bottom graph of this tracker from the FT.

Still amazed that its even a close run.

The list of unsuitable to be anywhere near any political position let alone the Presidency is too long to cover completely.

Business Failures multiple bankruptcies, including 'Trump University' where he had to settle with customers who wre being outrageously ripped off.
Convicted Felon... Like do we need to repeat that a clear dishonesty charge.
The whole Covid, Bleach, Ivermectin, misuse of funds to cronies etc.
Besides this waste, he had been building up debt to boost tax cuts for rich and stock exchange before Covid, at a record rate, making the country even more vulnerable.
His miracle peace plan for the Middle east seemed to be just having his relatives take only slightly under the table payments from Saudis.
Did not want to honor soldiers who served if it meant going out in the rain.
Instructed that those disabled in countries service not be in his presence ever!
Dead, disabled, POWs just losers to this loser.
Did not divest his business interests that greatly benefitted from his Presidency.
Now he has added a media company to the mix going forward.
The nepotism of family involvement in matters of state, and financial benefit.
The I will never like xxx spend anytime Golfing, then Golfed incessantly.
Failure on promises on 'easy' cheep revolutionary Healthcare plan,
fixing infrastructure problems that he said were easy, so much winning etc.
Jan 6th where he left his VP Hanging.
First not attend his opponents inauguration, for duty and good of country.
The damage to country and democracy in general since with the election denial.

The huge question mark over his honesty, any concept of service and ethics.
So what point are policy statements from liars, including Vance who won't even admit Trump lost last time!

Yet we hang by a thread, that minor things like age might turn a few voters.
Yet John Key would call Kamala Harris a 'Radical', Really !
