Giuliani’s attempts to overturn 2020 election partly thwarted by wrong number: The Guardian

Rudy Giuliani texted the wrong number as he tried to persuade Michigan legislators to help overthrow the 2020 election.

According to Jack Smith's document unsealed in federal court, Giuliani tried to send a message urging someone unspecified to help in the plan to appoint a slate of fake electors.

“So I need you to pass a joint resolution from the legislature that states the election is in dispute, there’s an ongoing investigation by the legislature, and the Electors sent by Governor Whitmer are not the official electors of the state of Michigan and do not fall within the Safe Harbor deadline under Michigan law,” Giuliani wrote.

As Trump sought to overturn the 2020 election, his allies sought to appoint alternate slates of electors in states that he lost to send to Congress. These false slates of electors met in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, New Mexico, Nevada and Arizona and signed certificates in which they represented that they were valid electors in their states. Trump allies then attempted to send those certificates to Congress for counting on 6 January 2021. The plan failed.

Some of the electors have since been charged criminally, while others have not. Some have said they were told that they were instructed they were acting as a backup in case Trump won court cases challenging the election results.

Prosecutors said Giuliani failed to send the message because “he put the wrong number into his phone,” prosecutors wrote.

Why the ‘Brooks Brothers riot’ of 2000 inspired Trump’s campaign operative in 2020: CNN

“Make them riot,” a Donald Trump campaign operative said the day after Election Day in 2020, when Trump supporters were converging on the massive vote counting center in Detroit as votes were being counted. “Do it!!!” the operative added.

The request for a “riot” was similar to efforts in other swing states by Trump’s campaign in 2020, according to newly unsealed allegations filed by special counsel Jack Smith in federal court in Washington, DC.

It also echoes through the last 25 years of American politics, since the Trump operative, identified only as Person 5, had been warned there could be unrest reminiscent of the infamous “Brooks Brothers riot” that helped stop a recount in Miami-Dade County weeks after Election Day in 2000.

That 2000 episode looms large in the memory of people who lived through the election of hanging chads – perhaps in part because it has the benefit of a catchy nickname, which was meant to impart that the well-dressed Republican operatives were part of an army of lawyers and staffers that flooded into Florida. They were dressed supposedly in clothes from Brooks Brothers rather than whatever people in Miami might have been wearing at the time.

For the Trump campaign four years ago in 2020, according to Smith’s filing, disruption was the aim. Trump has denied any wrongdoing and said the legal cases against him are all part of a “witch hunt.” He won’t get a chance to present a defense against Smith’s allegations before Election Day, but that’s because Trump's strategy of delaying the case has been very effective.

“Make them riot,”

were those not his words? Im sure thats what I heard on Brian Tyler Cohen break down. I could be wrong.

Either way, I wonder if these legal black and whites which are damning should he lose, will it impact anybody to vote Harris, as the patriotic vote to save the nation or whatever reason, I just wonder how many are left to change minds?

They often speak of October surprises, so clearly there must be a number of voter left wort fighting for?

ezbee:

Still amazed that its even a close run

I just wonder if so many in the US blame Biden for what was Trump setting them on a crash economy.

I wonder if they just want anarchy with such an absurd candidate.

If Kamala wins I can see LiZ Chaney in her party, to try and fix the GOP from across the aisle.

The Bulwark has quite a good write-up on the Jack Smith indictment info as well:

I fully expect the orange buffoon to scream "election fraud!" from the rooftops if he loses on November 5. But maybe he'll shut up after that, as he realises that outside of his nutty group of followers there's not much else they can do this time around, apart from be loud?

It’s truly commendable how Trump handled the 2020 election loss with such grace and maturity. Taking the high road, especially in the face of a tough loss, shows incredible strength of Trump's character. Trump ability to stay composed and positive is inspiring and sets a great example for all Republicans around you.

No wait...

Trump goes off in first Interview since latest Jack Smith filing: ‘They rigged the election’: Mediaite

Former President Donald Trump gave his first television interview on Wednesday since a motion in one of his federal cases was unsealed earlier in the day.

Special Counsel Jack Smith filed the motion last month after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Trump and other former presidents are immune from “official acts” they undertook while in office. The motion says the government’s case still conforms to the court’s ruling. Trump had pleaded not guilty to four counts that stem from his attempt to overturn the 2020 election that he lost.

On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan unsealed the motion, which contained several new revelations.
...
“This was a weaponization of government and that’s why [it] was released 30 days before the election,” Trump alleged. “They rigged the election. I didn’t rig the election… They should have never allowed the information to be, to come before the public.”

Trump probably looks in the mirror for inspiration on what to say about his opponents.
I've seen Sov Cits that are more cogent. That's a very low bar.
Seems nothing to do with age as his progeny do the same.

Is seems Republicans for Harris/CountryOverParty (there is about 5 of them) movement gaining steam? but its hard to know how many people they reach.

One thing that annoys me about Trump supporters, they are trying to compare Biden/Harris during the peak and the aftermath of Covid, they say it sucked then but not during Trump, it SUCKED everywhere on earth, there wasnt much more they could have done. Im not defending them, just saying it seems really stupid to compare apples with mangos.

I hope Liz Chaney goes into Michigan, rural Pennsylvania and Georgia with Harris. Clearly its beneficial for the GOP to perhaps have her in democrats trying to bring the parties closer and expel what is a leach from Republicans. We will see, IF dems win.

Some aren't too happy about it, but having said that I think Harris needs to do what she needs to do if she wants to win:

This year, anti-Trump Republicans, such as former Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger, Mesa, Arizona, Mayor John Giles and political commentator Ana Navarro, spoke at the Democratic National Convention. At times, these efforts have irked progressives.

A few of this week's election cartoons:

This one is related to Trump banging on about slapping tariffs on everything imported to solve America's economic woes:

Finally, the orange buffoon wants to hawk everything he possibly can with his name on it. Some people long for a time before he was a cult leader though:

Also: Harris might finally be making inroads with voters on one of Trump's (somehow) stronger election points - the economy:

Yep, another poll earlier in the week had her slightly ahead. Its not the issue it was only two months ago.

and last day or so great news for Biden on employment and other economic indicators which should help ease peoples concerns.

Its the squashing strong the border bill that may cost Harris the election. She hasnt prosecuted this enough, turning the narrative back to showing the motive behind why he squashed it and how selfish that was, and then to state never fear, Kamala will sign it day one.

Keep in mind conservatives are not going to be getting the message via Fox. I dont know what else this Coalition can do to reach Centre Right.

Local Springfield Ohio media mention the goose killings, but somehow forgot to ever mention the conspiracy theory, nor Trump, not JD Vance.

The local media also geo-blocked the story, likely to prevent people outside of Ohio from reading it online. Luckily Yahoo published it in full. The local media also failed to mention after the white hunter killed the geese, he did not eat them, just throwing them into bushes.

I guess it saves Trump the trouble of a "catch and kill" of the story.

Someone really has been killing geese in Springfield, Ohio – but it wasn’t Haitian immigrants: The Independent

False claims by Donald Trump and JD Vance that Haitian immigrants in an Ohio town have been eating people’s pet cats and dogs and “walking off” with geese have dominated the run-up to November’s election. Now it has emerged that someone really has been killing geese – and it isn’t a Haitian immigrant.

Brian Comer of Springfield was issued a citation last month for shooting two geese at a golf course, according to Clark County Municipal Court filings first reported by Texas-based investigative journalist Steven Monacelli. A witness told an officer ahead of Comer’s citation that he saw a “white male, in his late fifties or early sixties” riding a lawnmower before getting off and shooting two geese with a shotgun, the court filings reveal.
...
Comer’s citation was issued as Trump and Vance spread the false claim that Haitian immigrants were stealing and eating residents’ pets in Springfield. Trump also went on to claim that “migrants are walking off” with geese in the town.
...
Just before Trump made this claim, a photo went viral online of a black man picking up two geese. The animals had been hit by a car in Columbus, roughly 45 minutes away from Springfield,
...
the photographed person had a right to collect the geese carcasses

US officials struggle to quash Hurricane Helene conspiracy theories: Reuters

n the wake of the devastation of Hurricane Helene in the United States this week, a new storm emerged on social media - false rumors about how disaster funds have been used, and even claims that officials control the weather.

Local and national government officials say they are trying to combat the rumors, including one spread by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

One of the more far-fetched rumors is that Helene was an engineered storm to allow corporations to mine regional lithium deposits. Others accuse the administration of President Joe Biden of using federal disaster funds to help migrants in the country illegally, or suggest officials are deliberately abandoning bodies in the cleanup.

Republican Congress member Marjorie Taylor Greene posted on X Thursday night: "Yes they can control the weather. It's ridiculous for anyone to lie and say it can't be done."
...
The memo highlighted a claim by Trump during a rally this week that Biden and Harris had used federal emergency funds "on people that should not be in our country."

"This is FALSE," the memo said. "No disaster relief funding at all was used to support migrants housing and services. None. At. All."

Could the Republican Party fall to pieces if the orange buffoon loses next month? It's quite possible.

Seems like Trump and his cronies are already starting to contest the results of the election, this is before even a single vote has been counted:

https://www.thebulwark.com/p/our-new-maga-oligarchs

Trump and his allies’ shambolic legal misadventures ran into a buzzsaw in 2020, ultimately prevailing in almost none of the more than 60 suits they brought. This was in part because their challenges were unsupported by evidence and almost uniformly stupid.

But the judges who were compelled to play lawsuit whack-a-mole had their jobs made easier by perhaps the dumbest part of Trump’s legal strategy: They got started way too late. If you had a problem with the election laws, judges frequently ruled, why did you only challenge them after you lost?

Trump’s flood-the-zone-with-s--t legal strategy might not be any more effective this time around. But in this respect, he’s setting himself up better in advance. That should worry us.
