Trump’s Speeches, Increasingly Angry and Rambling, Reignite the Question of Age: New York Times

Former President Donald J. Trump vividly recounted how the audience at his climactic debate with Vice President Kamala Harris was on his side. Except that there was no audience. The debate was held in an empty hall. No one “went crazy,” as Mr. Trump put it, because no one was there.

Anyone can misremember, of course. But the debate had been just a week earlier and a fairly memorable moment. And it was hardly the only time Mr. Trump has seemed confused, forgetful, incoherent or disconnected from reality lately. In fact, it happens so often these days that it no longer even generates much attention.

He rambles, he repeats himself, he roams from thought to thought — some of them hard to understand, some of them unfinished, some of them factually fantastical. He voices outlandish claims that seem to be made up out of whole cloth. He digresses into bizarre tangents about golf, about sharks, about his own “beautiful” body. He relishes “a great day in Louisiana” after spending the day in Georgia. He expresses fear that North Korea is “trying to kill me” when he presumably means Iran. As late as last month, Mr. Trump was still speaking as if he were running against President Biden, five weeks after his withdrawal from the race.

With Mr. Biden out, Mr. Trump, at 78, is now the oldest major party nominee for president in history and would be the oldest president ever if he wins and finishes another term at 82. A review of Mr. Trump’s rallies, interviews, statements and social media posts finds signs of change since he first took the political stage in 2015. He has always been discursive and has often been untethered to truth, but with the passage of time his speeches have grown darker, harsher, longer, angrier, less focused, more profane and increasingly fixated on the past.

JD Vance translation: "You know that $500 million the Democrats offered to modernize your factory? Our counter offer is you'll get nothing, nada, nichts, zip, zilch, diddly, bugger all, and you'll happily accept it"

Large number wearing "auto workers for Trump" shirts were not actually auto workers.: Detroit News

Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance campaigned Tuesday in Detroit, where he described $500 million that the federal government is providing to convert a General Motors plant in Michigan for electric vehicles as "table scraps" compared with larger job losses he contends could be on the horizon.

Vance, the running mate of former President Donald Trump and a U.S. senator from Ohio, spoke and took questions for about an hour in Detroit's Eastern Market Shed 3. Several hundred people attended the event, including more than a dozen who were wearing "auto workers for Trump" shirts. However, six of the people in the shirts told The Detroit News on Tuesday they were not actually auto workers.

For a third time in less than a week, Vance was asked by a reporter about whether a future Trump administration would honor investments in EV manufacturing that have been planned for Michigan and didn't directly answer the question.
...
Harris campaign spokesman Joseph Costello said Tuesday that Trump and Vance are ceding future automotive manufacturing to China in the electric vehicle segment of the auto industry.

“Major investments in Michigan auto jobs made possible by Vice President Harris aren’t ‘table scraps,’ they’re a lifeline that is building the future of American manufacturing," Costello said in a statement. "JD Vance and Donald Trump are out of touch with Michigan, and it’s obvious when you see them threatening to abandon Michigan workers and cede the future of manufacturing to China."

Fema chief warns ‘dangerous’ Trump falsehoods hampering Helene response: The Guardian

A slew of falsehoods about Hurricane Helene, including claims of funds diverted from storm survivors to migrants and even that Democrats somehow directed the hurricane itself, have hampered the response to one of the deadliest hurricanes to ever hit the US, the nation’s top emergency official has warned.

Misinformation spread by Donald Trump, his supporters and others about the hurricane has shrouded the recovery effort for communities shattered by Helene, which tore through five states causing at least 230 deaths and tens of billions of dollars of damage. Many places, such as in western North Carolina, are still without a water supply, electricity, navigable roads or vital supplies.

“It’s frankly disappointing we are having to deal with this narrative, the fact there are a few leaders having a hard time telling the difference between fact and fiction is creating an impedance to our ability to actually get people the help they need,” Deanne Criswell, administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Fema), told MSNBC on Monday.

Trump has accused Joe Biden’s administration of “abandoning” people to the crisis and, baselessly, of being short of disaster relief funds due to money spent on undocumented migrants. Such claims are “frankly ridiculous” and creating a “truly dangerous narrative that is creating this fear” among affected people, Criswell said.

In multiple rallies in the past week, Trump has accused Biden and Kamala Harris of favoring migrants over disaster-hit areas. “They stole the Fema money, just like they stole it from a bank, so they could give it to their illegal immigrants that they want to have vote for them this season,” Trump has said.

“Kamala spent all her Fema money, billions of dollars, on housing for illegal immigrants.” Trump added the places worst hit are “largely a Republican area so some people say they did it for that reason”.

JD Vance, Trump’s Republican running mate, echoed this theme on Monday, telling Fox News that Fema’s focus on migrants is “going to distract focus from their core job of helping American citizens in their time of need”. Last week, Stephen Miller, a far-right Trump adviser, said that “Kamala Harris turned Fema into an illegal alien resettlement agency”.

Fema does, in fact, have a housing program that offers shelter to migrants leaving detention but this is separate from its disaster relief program. “No money is being diverted from disaster response needs. None,” the White House has stated.

In remarks on Monday after speaking to Criswell by phone, Harris urged politicians to stop “playing games” with lives at stake. According to the White House pool, the vice-president said: “There’s a lot of misinformation being pushed out there by the former president about what is available, particularly for the survivors of Helene. First of all, it’s extraordinarily irresponsible. It’s about him, it’s not about you. The reality is Fema has so many resources that are available to those who desperately need them.”

Trump, Musk and Key just fear that people may see Kamala as a normal person.
Not a Psychotic Trump or Vance.

Trump Campaign Rages Over Kamala Harris’ Beer With Stephen Colbert
‘OUT-OF-TOUCH’
“This is what happens when I drink beer,” the vice president joked. The Trump campaign isn’t laughing.
https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-campaign-rages-over-kamala-harris-beer-with-stephen-colbert?ref=home?ref=home

""
Harris listed off Trump’s many disappointments since the 2020 election, describing him as a “loser.”

“You know, I’m going to tell you what some of the people in my rallies—quite a few people show up, by the way—you know, when you lost millions of jobs, you lost manufacturing, you lost automotive plants, you lost the election. What does that make you? A loser. This is what somebody at my rallies said. I thought it was funny.” Harris laughed and Colbert remarked: “It’s accurate. It’s accurate.”
""

Loser is the worst fear for Trump, why he makes everyone around him deny his loss.
JD Vance once having had very choice words to say about Trump can't mention his loss at last election.
A policy platform built on big lie, how can trust someone that is so deceptive, dishonest, and then there are his losses in court.

JD Vance: "Ah, human Trump! I present to you a cylindrical aluminum vessel containing fermented barley liquid. Observe!"

He takes a can of beer from the fridge, holding it up like it's a rare artifact.

Trump: "You mean...a beer?"

Trump: "Affirmative! It is beer, a libation my assistant acquired from the local human merchant.

Consume it. Utilize your oral cavity and digestive tract for maximum pleasure and relaxation.

Enjoy, human Trump. It is said to enhance your social interactions and lower your inhibitions.

Trump: "Christ you're as dense as Eric. I can't drink alcohol."

Vance's face falls, his head drooping slightly in disappointment.

Vance: "Oh, this is indeed unfortunate news. I shall offer you this transparent, tasteless liquid. May it bring you as much satisfaction as my 'beer.' "

Trump: "Christ. it's lukewarm tap water. Just act normal!"

538 polling shows both candidate's numbers holding remarkably steady:

yeh the last month GE numbers have been consistent, Harris was at a near ~4% lead which steadily melted away to this ~2.5%. RKjr pulling out then endorsing Trump was right when that changed.

But Harris wheels are wobbling in the states that matter. I dont understand some of her media choices. The "View", then drinking beer with Stephen Colbert, I think she should have done more traditional media interviews and pressers, she already has the cool hipsters in her base.

The 3 blue wall states have been trending down the last month (Penn, Wisconsin, Michigan). Michigan was at 2.5% not that long ago, now at 1% avg. Its not the numbers but the trend that is concerning.

Ive read headlines she just isnt digging into the working class, which going back to her campaigns media choices just doesnt make sense. Didnt help Teamsters boss saying Dems have "fd" them over the last 40yrs couple nights ago on a podcast. but speaking at the RNC that was fairly obvious. I dont know what to make of his comments, then says hes a democrat. But seems about 2:1 will vote Republican, I think they about 1.3mill ppl.

Then Walz discussing the Elec College, a month out.........

Pakman on YT is going spare with frustration at the lack of attention to mental state and age of Trmp, which I think is a fair point given how every one took aim at Biden for the same reasons. Its almost like the media are so normalised to what he says, they failed to report on the actual concerns. Its possibly too late now even if they all started to do so.

The question to me is more, how do you raise these age/mental concerns with these hard to reach voters who are unlikely to read about it?
Is there a good reason why Harris has not raised it in her campaign, especially when Don opens the door targeting her mental state in his rally?

Fox news has put a 3rd debate proposal to both parties, no audience, in Pennsylvania. My question would be how would you mitigate the risk of questions targeting Harris problematic optics and ones promoting Trumps good points (in the eyes of his voters)?

Some of them already have...

quickymart:

In a similar vein: https://newrepublic.com/article/186836/trump-mental-fitness-cognitive-decline-new-york-times

The...article puts it on the line: “He rambles, he repeats himself, he roams from thought to thought—some of them hard to understand, some of them unfinished, some of them factually fantastical. An interesting analysis on a piece in the New York Times around Trump's (obvious) mental decline, why it's hardly covered in the US media, yet when it came to Biden it was basically open season for the same topic.

Yep, I think thats partly Pakmans issue, some have. But I think also his issue is the timing. Too little too late etc.

It was even raised in 16, however I think thats part of the problem people are normalised to incoherent ramblings. No matter how abnormal it is.

For it to make an impact 'now' I think the entire media spectrum need to hold him to the same level of scrutiny as they did Biden.

You would hope articles from NYT, Ass Pres, the Post, Independent etc, gain enough momentum for CNN etc to start asking questions and blow the lid open.

The other concern is Vance has quite a good chance of being a heat-beat away from Pres.....

As mentioned before US sheriffs are elected, not hired. (Deputies are hired)

In Ohio, sheriffs provide lead law enforcement protection at voting locations.

A Ohio sheriff can be an 18 years old, with a high school diploma with a driver's license. (Mutton chops and handlebar moustache optional)

There is some official training, of only 3 months. There's no legal requirement to be certified before being elected.

Not mentioned in the story below, the Ohio county election board has chosen to no longer have the sheriff head security at the voting locations. The sheriff still has his job, so I'd avoid Kent Ohio if you're not white.

Hee haw!

An awful lie about Haitian migrants led to this threat against citizens far away: MSNBC

The hateful lie pushed by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance, that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, were eating their neighbors’ pets not only endangered those migrants, it also led to an Ohio sheriff three hours away threatening citizens who show support for the Democratic presidential nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris.
...
Ohio Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski suggested tracking “all the addresses of the people who had [Harris] signs in their yards” so that “when the Illegal human ‘Locust’ (which she supports!) Need places to live...We’ll already have the addresses of their New families...who supported their arrival!”

The orange buffoon is scared of being shown up in yet another debate, so he makes a run for the exits.

Such a pity, I would love to have seen him get owned yet again.

I think he feels he has it in the bag, especially with a pretty bleak week of interviews for Harris.

What I dont get is people say they dont know enough about Harris even with all the work and policies. People just dont hold him up to the same demands. Perhaps they "think" they know, but I have a feeling this will be a very different term to the first one.

But hes ignoring a number of things like (if these havnt changed Im not sure) his Movie being released, Harris has a doco on her being released which will definitely help people know more about her personally. Obama is suppose to be on the campaign trail for her. My point being a lot can happen in 3 weeks.

Harris may well be able to deal with that. The Harris campaign will be seriously considering the pros and cons.
