Why not give parent ability to vote on behalf of their children from birth up until they are 16-18

Because having more kids shouldn't get you more of a say, and it kind of gets in the way of 'one person, one vote'.

Eitsop: What is wrong with that? All the elderly people won’t vote green as they won’t care

That's a ridiculous thing to say and demonstrably not true at all. I'd suggest getting out of your tiny bubble and taking a look around.

Oh yes not all but most wouldn’t vote green. Most will vote labour national or nz first
But what makes 16 year olds voting for greens any more ridiculous than my statement

The less sillyness around the better in my opinion.

One person one vote. Why don’t kids get to vote on future or have their vote represented.

Just as bad as saying Rich/poor/dumb people shouldn’t vote because they may vote a certain way

If it helps, I think people who try to make this kind of tedious equivalence shouldn't have the right to vote, but I accept they do anyway.

I am 78 and I have voted Greens in every election except the one when I voted for the Cannabis party. John Minto is 70. So is Tāme Iti. I can go on with a very long list of names of 'old' people unlikely to vote for Labour or National or NZ First.

I apologise I was too broad. There are smart older people. Just like smart young people

The 4 year term would probably make the biggest difference.

It would encourage longer term thinking.
Allows a Government to have its ministers get deeper into portfolios.
Lessens the problem of work of Government getting put aside to start fundraising for next election.
So little time between getting up to speed and then having take your eye off things to fundraise and campaign.

An example in business is when you have too much focus on quarter by quarter delivery that limits any plans that take longer to provide a return.

Costs of elections were heading towards 100 Million dollars, to consider as well.

Three years is enough. I'm pretty sure if we gave them four they'd be back asking for five.

Fundraising is not a big deal in NZ and it's mostly under control.

I would give them 5 years, if they form govt with 70% of MPs at least it wouldn't be partisan

If parties reward poor performance like our current government has run cabinet then it won't matter how many years you give them.

It's not like they're frantically sprinting through a work program, they're five six years into a two term government and have abandoned almost all of their flagship policies and made almost no inroads into others.

If governments like the one we have are goin to get longer terms than I want the ability to recall them halfway through.

If only New Zealand still had an Upper House, you could do something similar to the mid-terms in America where one of the two houses can change hands if a government isn't using its majority in accordance with the will of the people.
