Same goes for most political predictions no matter the party. Right now I'd say the political climate favours a National led government but I wouldn't bet on that either.

From a totally unscientific poll consisting of dinner with friends earlier today, a lot of formerly Labour people are going to vote National because they don't want Labour back and because they don't want any of the smaller parties that would be the logical alternative to Labour holding the balance of power with Labour.

Kiri Allan gone

Arrested for dangerous driving, hit a parked car, resisted arrest. Resigned as Minister of Justice. Best to quit politics IMO

I  can see that. Dont want to vote Labour anymore, so they vote National who they also dont want to vote for

Given where both parties have gone, and are going, there is no party that offers anything now. You would like two parties that offer Kiwis some solutions, so cast your vote. Not here. So you vote for the lesser of two evils or you dont vote at all. Maybe we just accept that nothing will change and vote for the best bribe, and leave it at that

If I have no faith in the majors to bring about major change to improve things then I might as well vote for someone who will let me keep more of my own money through tax cuts.

Exactly. They need to get Bill English to stand, simple as that. It doesnt matter how inept Luxon is if they have someone who knows what they are doing. Then he can roll Luxon in 2026, everyone's a winner. Willis being Minister of Finance gives me the shivers

Still too far out to make predictions, but this certainly won't help labours chances. At least its not another minister making headlines, but the minister of justice drink driving and resisting arrest, very bad look regardless of her "mental health issues". If her issues were that bad, she shouldn't have come back.

It depresses me beyond words that we are going to end up with another National government. Maybe we just don't deserve better.

It will be some kind of coalition where at least no single party can rule outright like we have seen with the current trainwreck of a Government. I know your views well on politics, but seriously no Government can be as bad as this current one. Based on the feelings from the silent majority, Labour are at risk of slipping into oblivion. While it is sad what has happened to Allan, we must remember that being a cabinet minister is theoretically one of the highest jobs in the land, yet this Government has shown no respect for the posts over the last year or so. We need an election rather badly imo.

Act will feature and I believe Winston may. I hope its a coalition as I dont think National is capable on its own.

I'm not cut up at the prospect of a National government.

I am bitterly disappointed that it will be one that hasn't earned it through having sensible policy platforms.

That's as much of an indictment on what is on offer through Labour/Greens/TPM as it on National TBH.

No matter who you want to win, you actually end up losing. Worst possible outcome.

An upside is all the sectors that we want fixed, cannot be fixed, thats the reality.

Probably not. I do not believe we have the political leadership, will or capability within the public sector itself to do some of what we used to consider fairly basic stuff.

If that is the case, do you just vote along 'who will let me keep more of my paycheque each week?'. It feels selfish, but I guess with a family that qualifies for little in the way state support outside of free doctor's visits, I feel less bad about it than I probably should.

Housing, Health, Education, Infrastructure, just to name some key ones. They are either big dollar CAPEX, and/or annual extra funding (more doctors, nurses, teachers, and pay adjustments)  We don't have the capital funding, nor do we have the budget surplus. While we can all whine about current and many many past governments, the same issues applied. Perhaps if we were like Baltic countries where the population is heavily concentrated , maybe, but that's not NZ. 5 million doesn't help either

Political leadership, will or capability wont help, $ in bulk and annually will but its not there. If you were low income, owned a house, and you had a myriad of repair work to be done, you don;t have the $80,000 nor the ability to increase your income, so you have little choice but to box on
