https://thedailyblog.co.nz/2023/10/03/dr-bryce-edwards-political-roundup-ten-reasons-labours-support-has-halved/

A detailed read from Dr Bryce Edwards on how Labour has lost its mojo and has seen its polling numbers plummet. As someone who voted Labour at the last election, this made for somewhat uncomfortable reading - but I'm still glad I read it.

I read the article, also voted for labour, honestly other than point 5 I personally didn't really vibe with their opinion.

Pretty much felt like fluff instead of analysis. Especially when they are using 'woke' and attempting to use emotive language.

I think this election I'll probably split my vote. I feel my local (Labour) MP does a great job and I see him around the community doing a lot. The National guy who was in before him didn't do jack until it was election time, otherwise he was largely invisible. So my electorate vote will definitely go to Labour.

As to the party vote...?

It’s Bryce Edwards. He’s not exactly the king of cutting edge analysis unless you want someone to get the skinny from anti-vax protestors.

I’ll will probably split my vote. Normally would’ve voted by now, but once vote can’t change mind.

I’m near minimum wage, worked out tax coming off is near 25%, add 15% on when spend that makes it 40%.

Then there is rates, petrol tax, and other tax’s like when buy alcohol.

It seems to be getting out of hand to me.

Then there’s things like income insurance protection scheme, which is on back burner for now but Labour was looking at bringing in which would mean more money coming out of wages.

https://www.mbie.govt.nz/business-and-employment/employment-and-skills/new-zealand-income-insurance-scheme/nziis-summary/the-scheme-will-be-managed-by-acc-which-will-also-collect-the-levy

Normally it would be easy decision to vote Labour, but current tax levels, and doing unpopular things like three waters. I believe chlorine is in Christchurch water because of central government decision. Some areas would’ve needed it regardless, but not all areas.

Understand your concerns.

I expect 'income insurance' to get a relook once National ACT are in place.
This time as substitute for normal unemployment benefit, rather than redundancy, US style, my guess YMMV.

I have noted that redundancy provisions have been rapidly gutted, in places I have been.
New employment contracts very hard ball on this.

It seems the Union support pushing forward this scheme was a kind of fait-acompli.
On seeing how poorly negotiations for redundancy provisions go?

To get some sort of redundancy, 4 weeks notice, 4weeks at 80% pay, up to 6 months pay at 80% assured.

Its kinda counter Labour, but making employers do it as they have in the past, not happening?
Pragmatic if iccky. They did hear that public was not up for it, others may not be listening.

Water, well you could be Queenstown or Hawkes Bay taking risks.
For some people this was life changing if not life ending for a few.
https://www.nzherald.co.nz/hawkes-bay-today/news/5000-people-ill-from-drinking-water-the-gastro-outbreak-that-sparked-change/PRBSTOSVBCO4EEOYXH52BC5W7M/

""
More than 5000 people fell ill, 45 were hospitalized, it was possibly linked to three deaths, and to date an unknown number of people continue to suffer health complications.
""

Many communities are having problems planning and executing drinking water and waste water plans.
Even Auckland with old waste systems, and still old decrepit mixed sewage and stormwater, and then this.
Auckland water charges could double if Three Waters repealed, council staffer says

I expect Can Kicking will bite us in the ass at some stage.

This must explain why I keep seeing Act ads all over the NZ Herald page - they are dropping in the polls (much to my dismay to NZ First's gain) and they know it, so they must be going hardout with the web advertising.

Asked if it’s the kind of language he expects from his candidates, Shaw said, “I couldn't comment on it without having seen it myself, but if what you're saying is correct, then no.”

Sounds like you're being dishonest in your statement. We expect better.

X, out in the open, its what you feel very comfortable the world knowing.
Until you don't.

Sooo the Party vetting process is? You don't look at their public social media?
While they may have fallen around laughing at other parties candidate problems over the years.

Oh my Toba must have looked like the cat who got the cream.
James Shaw must have been wondering why Toba was in such a good mood, until he wasn't.

Regardless the rest of the comments sound quite unpleasant and condescending. Presumably the candidate has a rank or position with no danger of actually making it to parliament. Shaw clearly indicated it's not the kind of thing expected. Presumably there will be some development within 24 hours or so.

I voted today. Was having lunch with a Geekzoner friend at the local mall and when I left home I found the voting card in the mailbox, so why not?

It took me about three minutes total. The friend decided to vote too, but didn't have the card on his person. It took him about three minutes total.

There's no excuse not to vote if you can.

Sounds to me like you’re attacking me instead of the point- the greens have an issue with senior members of their party being hostile to a large proportion of the population.

I explained why I wouldn’t vote for them, these types of issues keep happening.

You could be right, it’s hard to tell.

Edit: I omitted the Shaw comment because of the quote limit, not for any other reason.

If Mauricio is correct i of course withdraw and apologise.
