Around 800,000 people now evacuated from Rafah and the IDF moving in.

And, as far as I am aware, not a word from Biden. I guess the red line must have faded.

Gantz says he will quit the cabinet in three weeks if Netanyahu's coalition fails to agree with six goals:

Times of Israel:

1. "To bring the hostages home;”

2. “To topple Hamas rule, demilitarize the Gaza Strip and gain Israeli security control [of Gaza];”

3. Alongside that Israeli security control, “to create an international civilian governance mechanism for Gaza, including American, European, Arab and Palestinian elements — which will also serve as a basis for a future alternative that is not Hamas and is not [Palestinian Authority President] Abbas;”

4. “To return residents of the north to their homes by September 1, and to rehabilitate the western Negev (adjacent to Gaza, targeted by Hamas on October 7);”

5. “To advance normalization with Saudi Arabia as part of a comprehensive process to create an alliance with the free world and the West against Iran and its allies;” and

6. “To adopt a framework for [military/national] service under which all Israelis will serve the state and contribute to the national effort."

Gantz would probably be prime minister tomorrow if he and his aligned parties dropped the insistence on number six which is his attempt to get Haredi parties aka ultra-orthodox to serve in the military. It should not be important right now. Number one is obvious. Seeing Netanyahu wearing the hostages pin is hard to reconcile with reality.

There is no need or motivation. The various political parties inside and outside the coalition just need to agree and Netanyahu is gone.

Either that or the default is wait until the next election in 2026.

It really looks like parties would rather continue the pressure on the Haredi - Israel's equivalent in public discourse to the welfare mom right now - than park that for a decade and work on the other issues.

Netanyahu has a political strategy - hang on to his job at the expense of everything and everybody else.

Mr Netanyahu has so far not articulated a vision for what comes after the war,

another war probably. Smotrich is advocating for a full war with Hezbollah and Lebanon. The electorate majority opinion seems to not want even occupation of Gaza which would be bad enough let alone maintaining it which nobody seems to want except the radical settlers. The possibility of adding a full war in the north - the electorate majority seem to correctly consider it insane.

The Iranian president and other officials have died in a helicopter crash.

Haven’t seen it on any news headlines yet, (crash report but not confirmed death) but watching the enforcer YouTube channel they say it’s confirmed.

They showed photo’s from drone showing helicopter on 70 degree angle into mountain suggesting it flew straight into the side. Also infrared pictures from a Turkish drone showed that it caught fire upon crashing.

Cause of crash seems to be bad decision to fly in thick fog, and no advanced navigation equipment on helicopter.

Protential power struggle could happen.

ICC: Netanyahu angrily rejects move to seek his arrest - BBC News

The response to this from him and his cohorts is to say that it's ridiculous to equate Israels actions with that of a terrorist organization.

In fact the charges are completely different.

SJB:

I imagine a lot of Israelis think like this.

We must disenthrall ourselves | Rachel Tzvia Back | The Blogs (timesofisrael.com)

I have read several opinion pieces now expressing similar sentiments. That one is very clear and concise. It is no surprise in that light the Milosevic analogy on day two of the recent four day anti-Netanyahu demonstrations which that opinion piece has some implicit agreement with on some aspects.

Milosevic was eventually removed by democratic means. Imo Milosevic's removal could and would not have occurred without the demonstrations forcing the opposing political parties to actually agree on something.

I believe that scenario is still possible in Israel and is still very likely. Things only get worse if this situation with Netanyahu continues until the scheduled elections in 2026.

There have been massive demonstrations against Israel's housing shortage in recent years. It has been a continuing problem. Netanyahu has increased construction in the Palestinian occupied territories and thereby almost forced under pressure Israelis to consider the many advantages those government projects provide.

This in turn has increased pressure on the Palestinians in the occupied West Bank with walls and more passes required which has inevitably contributed to increase in frustrations of daily life.

Further out from those government approved settlements come the outlying radical illegal settlers extending things still further and frequently engaging in direct physical attacks on nearby Palestinian farms and villages. Protests against Netanyahu will need to call for an end to all that and instead construct significant housing inside the internationally recognised green line.

Watching from across the world in Russia, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that its adversary's "attitude and willingness to use sanctions methods even against the ICC" was "more than curious".

When even the Kremlin is like "wut?" you know you're doing something wrong.
