Handle9:

These sort of simplistic statements grossly misrepresent the overall complexity of what's gone on over the last hundred years.

Going back to the Zionist movement terrorism has occurred on both sides of the Israeli conflict. Certainly the occupations of Gaza and the West Bank have created conditions where terrorism is almost inevitable.

Nothing about these conflicts is simple or likely able to be solved. The only constant is the people being killed, displaced and put into poverty.

Hundred years?

Try the last 3000 years.

It is difficult for people who believe in their country and cannot reconcile their experience of what they have been asked to do and what they have done with the reason they went there in the first place.

CNN: Mizrahi’s family started speaking out about his death after the IDF did not grant him a military burial, saying he had not been “in active reserve duty.” They later reversed their decision.

it is obvious from the above - the official IDF does not now count his death and other deaths like his in the official army statistics. There is another way - John Musgrave, U.S Marine, Vietnam - "It finally dawned on me, and this was a long, painful process, that I wasn't helping anybody by keeping my mouth shut"

SaltyNZ: Of course all this forgets the toll taken on the lives of the Israeli soldiers who have accidentally mown down so much meat with their unsteerable D9 armoured bulldozers that one guy can't enjoy a nice steak anymore.

For an excellent film about this, watch Ari Folman's "Waltz with Bashir", about a former conscript trying to figure out why he can't remember anything about his service in Lebanon.  It starts off very slow and gets more and more intense as it goes on, an outstanding film.

Netanyahu knows most Israelis are in this for the return of the hostages. Protesting Israelis have already realized that Netanyahu's claims military pressure will bring the hostages home are just empty words to appeal for public support of his coalition.

In contrast, Netanyahu's extremist coalition minority partners are 100% open about being in it to expel the residents of Gaza and establish extremist settlements in Gaza as they already did in many places in the West Bank and in Israel itself all the while supported at arms length by the government.

Army members and reservists regularly protest against the Netanyahu coalition along with the rest of the public. In the last few weeks 138 soldiers have signed a letter stating they will refuse to serve in Gaza unless Netanyahu concludes a hostage deal. Some signatories are currently serving in Gaza and say they have made a difficult decision to not go back after their current rotation completes. The number refusing to serve will continue to grow.

War keeps Netanyahu in power. Return of the hostages reduces the ability of his government to remain "at war" and simply in conflict.

Once the war ends and they are simply squabbling with the neighbours as they so often do, he can be removed from office and charged with all of the various war crimes of which he has been accused - along wioth all of the corruption charges and various other things he's been accused of.

An aide to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been arrested on charges of accessing, altering, and leaking classified documents, as part of an effort to torpedo a hostage deal.

Jerusalem Post: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s close aide is suspected of leaking sensitive security documents as part of an orchestrated campaign to thwart a hostage deal, court documents revealed on Sunday. It has already been billed as one of the most serious security breaches in the country’s history. Details are scarce, but the court decision showed that four individuals were under investigation, including civilian Eliezer Feldstein, a close associate of Netanyahu’s who had been informally working for him.

It is consistent with allegations that Netanyahu has acted unilaterally to prevent a hostage deal on several occasions.

Prime Minister Netanyahu fires Defense Minister Yoav Gallant who then tells everyone what they already knew:

Times of Israel: Former defense minister Yoav Gallant reportedly told families of hostages held in Gaza that Israel’s military has no reason to remain in the Strip, and that Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu is keeping soldiers in Gaza “out of a desire to stay there.” “The head of the Shin Bet, the chief of staff, and I think the head of the Mossad, also agreed with me,” Gallant said, explaining that he told Netanyahu that “the conditions were ripe” for a deal in July, and that he and the prime minister have been in conflict about the parameters for a proposal ever since. The ousted defense chief said that he and IDF chief Herzi Halevi were both skeptical of claims that there were security or diplomatic justifications for leaving troops in the Strip.

The hostage situation is extended by Netanyahu and backed up by his extremist coalition partners.

Batman:

ICC issues arrest warrant for Netanyahu

I'm sure that will be just as effective as the one issued for Putin in March 2023.

It has stopped Putin travelling to events overseas, and he's in a vast and very diverse country that offers most things you'd otherwise have to travel elsewhere to get.  Netanyahu is in a small region of mostly desert.

Huge jump in anti-semitic incidents reported by the NZ Jewish Council:

NZHerald: New Zealand’s Jewish community has seen an increase in anti-Semitic incidents during the past 13 months, including death threats, and abusive behaviour. In a new report provided to the Herald by the New Zealand Jewish Council, figures showed in the 12 months from October 7, 2023, there were 227 recorded anti-Semitic incidents - a jump from 166 incidents in the eight-and-a-half years prior. “Since the start of 2024, the number and severity of antisemitic incidents has decreased, however, there are still approximately 3.6 times more reported incidents than prior to 7 October 2023,” the report said.

The numbers are shocking both before and after the October 7th events. The number of people identifying as Jewish in New Zealand is tiny. On a per person basis those statistics are horrific.

A photo provided by the council to the NZ Herald in the article above. Even if one or two of those students might have thought they were being funny and egged along by some idiot they all need to know this is never a topic for humor and never harmless. NZHerald:

Former Israeli Defense Forces Chief of Staff in Likud government Ya’alon says Netanyahu is on the path of ethnic cleansing in Gaza:

Times of Israel: Former defense minister and IDF chief of staff Moshe Ya’alon said on Saturday that Israel’s leadership, driven by far-right elements who seek to resettle Gaza, was taking the country down a path of ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip, and warned that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government was leading the nation to “destruction.” “The path we are being dragged down is one of occupation, annexation and ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip,” “Transfer, call it what you want, and Jewish settlements,” he said, referring to the idea pushed by the Israeli far-right for population transfer and “voluntary migration” of Palestinians from Gaza, and the reestablishment of Jewish settlements in their place.

Extremist far right ministers are now used by Netanyahu to hold the balance of power in parliament. Ya’alon himself is a member of the same right wing liberal party as Netanyahu. Most of Likud's senior members would like to see Netanyahu gone.

Prime Minister of NZ Christopher Luxon says Netanyahu will be arrested if he visits New Zealand:

Stuff: Prime Minister Christopher Luxon says Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would be arrested if he came to New Zealand. “We support the ICC [the International Criminal Court],” Luxon said at a press conference on Monday. “We believe in the international rules-based system, we support the ICC, and we would be obligated to do so.” Luxon’s comments follow the ICC’s recent decision to issue arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Israel’s former defence minister, Yoav Gallant.

New Zealand is a signatory to the Rome Statute which established the International Criminal Court and the responsibilities of member states. Gallant thought he could take over from Netanyahu by matching Netanyahu. Gallant ended up in the same place.
