freitasm:

Found this on LinkedIn.

I am now putting David Seymour as an extreme-right wing conservative. Politicising kid's food? Calling food "woke"?

What a drag (pun intended).

And here is a worthy comment from Mike Godwin, of Godwin's Law fame:

I had to check that was not a fake. It's no surprise ACTs ak uni branch filled up with alt-right nutjobs with bait like that to attract them.

I'm going to take the devils (lot consider DS to be one lol) advocate here again.

@freitasm-

Can you prove or have inside information that he did not save 107million as he states?

Reality as he claims that Labour did not budget for school lunches past this year - is that incorrect?

He is saying he is able to keep funding the program - is that not correct?

@freitasm - If the above statements are true, I'd like to know the reason for fairly harsh words like "fukchead" etc regardless if DS is right/left/center and the term "woke" is not something he only uses.

He says he'll be feeding kids with fruit and sandwiches. I assume strange use of the word "woke" in this context, could be similar reason that was recently in the media urging kiwis to stop buying not-value-for-money "greenwashing" scam type of foods where it appears to be paying a premium for some benefit that doesn't exist or doesn't match the cost - https://campaigns.consumer.org.nz/greenwashing

Again, this is not a "Devil's Advocate" position.

My post was about using "woke" as an attribute for food, which is stupid. Food is not "woke". Food is not sentient and has no knowledge or concept of "woke". People make things "woke" by using the word in their language.

Your reply is a Straw Man Fallacy, as I wrote "Politicising kid's food? Calling food "woke"?" and no where commented about the savings, or the budget.

So if you want to argue in good faith, great but all your posts in this topic so far are not in good faith.

Your post is a Strawman Fallacy, as I wrote "Politicising kid's food? Maybe you could have shared JUST the woke bit and not the budget and savings.

So if you want to argue in good faith, great but all your posts in this topic so far are not in good faith.

Last thing I want to do is argue with a mod who is accusing me of my arguments are not in good faith.

Telling you again, it IS in good faith and came here to learn more and also question all sides of the argument.

Apologies if any of my comments are not coming in good faith. Not much I can do other than stop, if that is what is required.

You can start by ensuring your arguments are about the reply you are responding to, not something else.

If I say "Calling food "woke"" you can't go around arguing about budget, which I did not mention in my post.

Using this type of argument derails the conversation. It is a well-known bad-faith tactic, so if you want to participate, don't use it.

What is "woke" food, can we assume that Bellamy's where the MPs eat does not have such "woke food" available to them ?

What does Shane Jones mean when  "Shane Jones slams 'woke-riddled left' amid energy debate"

"Woke" is now just childish name calling, no meaning, just name calling to elicit a response. It is used so they do not have to debate, explain and reason for their POV because that approach allows others to say you are wrong and gives information to everyone to make an informed opinion.

So, does my explanation of why DS described "quinoa" as woke make sense? I think I said above that to me it relates to the practice of paying a higher price for thinking you are doing something great, but in reality you are not. As described by "greenwashing". He is funding samwiches and fruits instead of higher priced item which is considered to be more healthy by certain and usually only affordable to rich people. Even though sandwiches can also be healthy at lower cost that doesn't invovle quinoa and other higher priced ingredients.

SaltyNZ posted "engine" isn't woke, it can't be woke. Sure, it's just an engine.

But do you understand if someone points to a million dollar electric battery engine and says its woke - it is still an engine with no feelings but to certain people, calling a battery minerals engine woke, that would make sense.

You completely missed the sarcasm in the @saltynz's joke.

And yes, pointing to an engine and calling it "woke" is stupid as Seymour calling food "woke".

But read the whole book cover to see the joke you missed.

Totally agree - calling 'food' woke doesn't make sense. As I shared earlier, real definition of woke is something else and cannot be used for "food".

The word woke does not appear once in that article.

I was just trying to give an example of where some fukcheads and dikcheads will call million dollar battery powered engine woke despite engines are just engines..

Quinoa is gluten-free for a start. Having kids eat a wide variety of food stuffs is also a great idea.

Quinoa is grown in NZ, flour for bread in NZ comes from Australia because NZ lacks certain trace elements in our soil (selenium, etc)

In many cases a hot meal at school is the only one kids get

Hot meals are more likely to be fresh and are appreciated during winter, I am sure he will have some firm bulk make sandwiches and ship them around NZ (more pollution), but they won't be fresh.
I for one do not eat pre-made sandwiches because I do not eat butter or Marg that way.

Seymour is wanting "cheap", nothing else, and "woke" is the way to get it without justification

The argument is just purely being nasty and a Grinch.

Quinoa
You many or may not have found an exception and make that the rule.
How many schools did this and how much did it cost them and how often?
Or was it just a special occasional at few exceptions, or no school.

This is today's Pack and Save pricing, and I daresay you can do better in bulk.

Pams Quinoa is $1.04 per 100g
Australian Brown Rice and Quinoa is 4.89/750g 0.65/100g

Somewhere in internet they say a standard Adult serving is about 1/2 Cup or 125g before adding water.

School lunch provider says new sandwich scheme won’t cut it
https://www.waikatotimes.co.nz/nz-news/350271723/school-lunch-provider-says-new-sandwich-scheme-wont-cut-it

Cheat sheet: What’s the school lunch programme?
https://www.stuff.co.nz/politics/350271688/cheat-sheet-whats-school-lunch-programme

I can see the plan, make meals as unappetizing as possible.
A half frozen sandwich made days ago, with tasteless filling on a cold winters day.
Then lobby to cancel the program as so many remain uneaten.
