As for the poor, I guess its a case of "Let them eat cake", far more important to let Brian Tamaki get his snout into the trough.
I'm not sure what this has to do with the argument that Wellington public servants should be considered sacred cows because it might have a negative impact on businesses in Wellington if they're subjected to the same reality the rest of the country has to deal with.
The reality is, things will suffer. Departments will try to make budget with deferred maintenance leaving bigger pot holes to appear later.
Things like passports will take longer, computer systems will not get upgraded, but will take longer and become more expensive to do so.
We have more people in prison for longer costing far more money than it would have to feed them and educate them.
More stuff will be contracted out, not because it is cheaper or better, but because there is no other option
Ultimately I believe it will open the government up to more "pressure" from businesses and for them to get their own way at the expenses of the people.
We will stupidly build more roads so the future us can look back, see the billions wasted and wonder why we did not invest in rail
National has become all about the quick buck.
