Apparently she's back. I will be very interested to hear what she has to say. I will give her a few days to settle in and collect her thoughts, but if there is no reasonable communication by the end of the week I will gladly join the mob baying for her blood.

You are being too nice. She should have her thoughts "collected" the moment she landed back here.

It is certainly not looking good for her. She really needs to make a statement now. This is a big deal and I was reluctant to join the judgement mob but I agree it is now more than time for her and the Greens leadership to go public over this.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/green-mp-golriz-ghahraman-faces-further-shoplifting-allegations-in-wellington-report/RM77UR23JRDKPP6SESSKLJZJQM/

A Green Party spokesman told the Herald: “This is a matter for the police to investigate.”

For sure, but as her employer I would have expected a little more leadership to be shown by the Greens than what I've seen so far.

Did you think Greens were any better in terms of morals than any other party?

I think this is getting to the point where the main priority will be making sure she has some sort of support structure around her - the longer it goes on, the more will come forward, at some point there's a well-being question that needs to be managed intensively around this.

I guess not, but maybe I was too optimistic. Their handling of this has been quite poor.

It's been handled the same as any other party for an allegation of this nature. Ghahraman has been stood down from all portfolios until these allegations are resolved.

Imo the difference here and now is the parliament is not in session. I think the part people are expecting to see and are used to is the constant reporting on the questions in parliament and the responses to those questions. That part is not going to happen until parliament resumes. No doubt the various government parties are planning that for their first day back ; ).

On the face of it, the party has known about this for three weeks.

Did we only hear about it because it was finally being reported in the media?

She has resigned.

This was the only possible course of action for her. I know that this form of shoplifting is a mental health issue and I hope people will leave her in peace to work out her problems. This is a huge price for her to pay and that should be enough. She has done what she should have by resigning.

Genuinely the right thing for her to do, not just for her personally but also taking ownership of it and engaging with the process will help her when this inevitably reaches the Law Society. There'll be a process to go through there but she's now infinitely better placed to address it and work her way through that too.

If I was in her shoes, I'd probably be a lot happier today than I was yesterday. She's paid a price, but it's also a big step in the right direction for her.

I doubt they are actually her shoes.

Agree it's the right thing.

The genuine right thing would have been for her to start addressing it when she first started doing it, which appears to date back to at least October (and not wait until she got caught).

Thanks for explaining "plethora".

It means a lot.

She’s taken the honourable option. Nitpicking at this stage feels gross.

I think resignation genuinely reflects well on her character. People do all sorts of things wrong for all sorts of good and bad reasons. The ones who take responsibility should be respected.
