I quite enjoyed watching The Son. Nothing like a bit of scalping in action in a western!

Officer disputes Netflix portrayal of Central Park Five case

CNN

The Netflix limited series "When They See Us" tells the story of five teen boys of color who were wrongfully convicted in 1990 of raping and leaving a white female jogger for dead in New York City's Central Park. CNN's Michael Smerconish talks with a former NYPD officer who made arrests in the case.

Good Omens (Amazon Prime) - 9/10

As a longtime TP fan, I've always been wary of TV adaptations.  For me, his work always struggles to translate to the screen.  Part of that is the liberal use of comedic footnotes, and part is the way he describes things.  Even when casting and characterisation are close, it feels like 80% of the best stuff never makes it the screen.

I think Good Omens did a really good job.  I know the source material really well, having read it more times than I care to count.  There were only a few things that I noticed missing, and I could understand why they left it out.  The pacing was good, and the weaving of the different storylines was handled well.  I was also a little unsure how they would handle the passage of time since the book was published.  For instance, it came out in 1990, and it reflects a "simpler" ideal of childhood for Adam and the Them, which probably feels a little twee these days.  That was probably the only thing that felt a little out of place - the way Adam, Pepper, and the rest of the gang were portrayed seemed like a moment frozen in time, rather than kids in 2019.  Though, to be fair, part of that is channelling an idea from the book (there's a passage where Anathema describes Adam's life as some kind of "Boy's Own" idyllic memory), and secondly I don't think the show ever explicitly stated when it was set, and use of technology that might date it was limited.  But these are really small niggles, that doesn't really detract from an excellent adaptation of a great novel.

And for anyone waiting for "season 2" - don't.  Neil Gaiman made it clear that just as there is no sequel to the novel, there's no season 2.

Bad Blood - Season 2 is back on Netflix, IMDb 7.4/10 [3,926]

I really enjoyed season 1 and gave it 8/10. Season 2 is shaping up to be just as or even more enjoyable.

The series is loosely based on organised crime in and around Montreal, Canada, starting in the early 80's upto present day and focuses on the leading crime family. It has an excellent ensemble of veteran actors. Think Goodfellas, Peaky Blinders and The Sopranos. Loads of violence, lots of twists and turns and strategies and it is another show where the writers are not afraid to knock-off lead characters.

Netflix: How Aggretsuko Portrays Romance in Adulthood

Fandom Musings

"There’s a lot to like about this show. It’s cute as hell. It’s funny. It’s relatable. It tackles sexism and gendered expectations that women in Japan face in the workplace. It portrays female friendships as important lifelines for adult women. It explores women’s anger and frustration in a relatable way. It’s good. It’s really good. There’s a lot we could talk about.

But I want to focus a little today on one particular aspect: How Aggretsuko handles relationships and dating in a pretty mature and nuanced way, especially for anime."

Designated Survivor.

One virtue signalling opportunity after another. Verging on the ridiculous to be honest. Like they had a checklist.

Christians who don't like "Good Omens" petition wrong company about removal. It's almost like they didn't watch it, before protesting it.

US Christian group admits error in petitioning Netflix about Good Omens

The protest group will now redirect its campaign against the ‘evil’ and ‘offensive’ adaptation of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s novel to Amazon, which made it

Thousands petition Netflix to cancel Amazon Prime’s Good Omens

A Christian group calling for the cancellation of Good Omens, a television adaptation of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s 1990 fantasy novel, has admitted to an “oversight” in directing its petition at Netflix when the series is actually made by Amazon Prime.

The Return to Order campaign, an offshoot of the US Foundation for a Christian Civilization, initially directed its ire at Netflix, calling for the site to “stop promoting evil” and “pull this series at once”.

The petition was updated on Thursday to reflect the “oversight by Return to Order staff” and acknowledge that the “offensive” series had, in fact, been released by Amazon. “We regret the mistake, and the protests will be delivered to Amazon when the campaign is complete,” said organisers.

The correction did not come in time to prevent both Netflix and Amazon from getting in on the fun. “Ok we promise not to make any more,” tweeted Netflix yesterday. “Hey netflix, we’ll cancel Stranger Things if you cancel Good Omens,” tweeted Amazon Prime.

When They See Us on NF - the story of the Central Park Five. There’s an indirect reference to it above - where one of the cops involved back in the day tries to defend what happened.

The series itself is four long episodes and is brilliant IMO - but tough to watch at times.

If you watch and enjoy it, there’s also a NF follow-up story where Oprah Winfrey talks to the producer/director and the actors who played the Five and their families - and then to the Five themselves. I’m not an OW fan but thought it was very good.

I'm surprised Internal Affairs Minister Tracey Martin didn't get in on the censor action.

I've been enjoying this series, called "Barry", a comedy about a hitman.

Two seasons. Rated M.
