I helped a lady out who crashed her motorbike bike in Dome Valley this morning .. sunstrike got her so she took a slide into the gravel ditch.

She was 75 at least, tough old bird and I think been riding longer than I've been alive!  She laughed off the accident and after her wheel got straightened out headed off again, I intended to be nice and follow her to the bike shop but she out rode me .. speed limits and yellow no overtaking lines meaning nothing to her :-)

So that was my good deed of the day :-)

Would it not have been a better deed (for the rest of us at least!) to report a rider who clearly (a) is not up to it anymore and (b) has no respect for the road rules?

If you do succumb to it, make sure the person murdered deserves it and then it becomes a good deed!

Sure. And when she causes an accident you could have prevented, how much fun will that suck away?

She's living like every day could be her last.  And it's easy to see how that could be the case.  :-p

As for mine, offered a ride to someone I recognised as a fellow train commuter on the way to the station.

On the usual slow motorbike commute to work. Traffic is 30 to 40k, but steady. Hard for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the road, there is a good distance between crossings. So, I slow gradually, building up a gap, they scuttle across, cool. Everyone a winner

Are you sure you are not related to Victor Meldrew ?

Actually .. do explain .. how would I have prevented a future accident she may or may not cause ?

I walked past a closed cafe latish last night and a window had been left noticeably wide open.  No A/H number and no security firm sticker and not possible to lock from outside so I just pushed it to.

Then I phoned the local police station.  I was very politely and respectfully brushed off.

So I checked the cafe's website - it's a franchise website with only very basic location/hours info so no joy there.

Google found a news article about the cafe which contained the owners names.  They have an uncommon family name and Nelson is small, so I managed to track down their home phone number and they were at home.  They were grateful for the call and hopefully managed to go and lock the place before anyone would be thief noticed the open window.

I did a similar thing with a local doctor's surgery one time. I noticed they'd left a window open. I wrote down the details and phoned the number of the doctor, listed on the door. I was put through to an after hours monitoring service and let them know that a window had been left open. They said they'd phone the doctor and let him know.

Makes a case for having an A/H number listed.

Should have put it out of its misery like they do for horses and cattle that get irretrievably stuck in mud.  :-p
