When these same sweet little kids hit teenage years, and one day turn around and accuse their parents of not caring about them, not understanding them, and instinctively reject everything you say.

Like we all did to our parents?

Yes. Many parents seem to have forgotten their own obnoxious years, we had different extremes perhaps, but it's pretty well inevitable.

I was particularly disgusting - could be an interesting thread to start - "the foulest things I did when I was a teenager".  Even avoiding things NSFW, I shudder when I think of myself at that age.

I bought a book from Trade Me.

Nothing special - a second edition of Thunderball by Ian Fleming in paperback, cost $12. Bought it because that edition has two fake bullet holes in the cover and I remember reading that version as a young man.

What made me smile is that the seller had taken an enormous level of care over the packing.

  1. The book was wrapped in a plastic bag.
  2. The plastic bag was then wrapped in many layers of newspaper
  3. The newspaper wrapped book was then taped to a stiff cardboard backing board to prevent bending
  4. That was then wrapped neatly in bubble wrap
  5. That was then neatly wrapped in brown paper, with a hand written address, in ink.

So nice to see someone take such time and care in the modern world.

Sounds like more than $12 of packaging involved.

When you're halfway through a dispute with an AliExpress trader who is trying to worm their way out of giving you a refund, and you get an email from AE to say they find in your favour and the money should be back on the card soon.

Colleague at work found an original "Astro Wars" computer game and brought it in to show people.  From across the office I heard the unmistakable chirping, and knew immediately what it was.  Took me right back to my childhood blasting aliens on a tiny 4-colour screen!

That in 2017, nothing is surprising enough any more - to make me want to click to find out.

The comment from police relating to the stolen police car in Murupara:

The search is believed to have been hampered by the fact that the offender had access to police radio in the car and could potentially listen in to police communications.
