The Dorito card arrived yesterday, and when I checked online banking there was also a Visa credit card now showing with $0 balance and the same limit as my MasterCard.

Will leave it and see what happens. Took so long though. My partner received his letter before me and his still hasn't arrived, he needs a new card too because I think he said his chip was failing.

if you want to pay a bill and the CSR asks for your CC number, or quite commonly, ordering takeaway ...

would giving out the number be a reason for bank to not cover you for fraud (if you didn't divulge the security code and pin of course)?

because if it does that would make life very difficult.

i guess the comparison is - if you pay online unsecurely would you be covered

No giving out the card number, expiry and csc over the phone is a normal way that cards are used. It's just your pin you should never give.

So redraw it yourself? Then it is copyright to you, you may still have the trademark issues however.

Does anyone know a bit more about the changeover?

MasterCard fees are higher than Visa - as simple as that. You can choose to remain on your old number but you have to justify that with them.

People complain about AMEX fees abut MC fees are also higher than VISA and not only that they vary depending on transaction and payment method. No one is adopting contactless on MC widely because of this
