2 times this year my personal CC has been compromised,  this credit card i never use anywhere "dodgy", i have a seperate business credit card i use for overseas/aliexpress/etc purchases that with a much smaller limit that handles most of my CC transactions

 

 

 

I didn't use this new credit card physically at any location or atm before the fraud started, and have only used it at  well known New Zealand retailers online and a couple Paypal payment.

 

 

 

it is also not stored within chrome nor my password manager, my PC is not compromised - you'll have to take my word for it - i am the IT admin for dozen auckland companies.

 

 

 

3 companies are storing my credit card info, Menulog, 2talk and Skinny

 

 

 

both times before my CC was compromised, menulog was used just days before.

 

 

 

because i dont use this personal card much, and its quite new,  there is only a small handful of places it could be compromised from, 

 

 

 

I was wondering if other users of 2talk / skinny / menulog are having a similar experience as me.

 

 

 

its possible it could be 6 other places besides them of course im not pointing any fingers, but would be interesting if others might have had similar experiences with the above companies.

My credit card got comprised recently.
They said I could keep it but do no transactions without card present.
I said card was worthless like that so they sent new card out, then said because it was bank cancelling card no new card fee. I should think so.

I tried to get details of compromise source but they were tight lipped.
Have had credit card over 30 years no problem.
Of the above companies the only one I dealt with was Skinny and I'd only put card on there a couple months before.
I don't have new card on there and currently using top up mobile on internet banks banking applic.

Edit: I only had this card 6 months or so as had recently swapped from American Express to Visa as American Express doesn't seem to be keeping up with technology, still have to sign card on purchase for goodness sake.
Skinny and Sky only places card used without being present, been with Sky for years no probs, so skinny only new one.

I have used my card plenty of times with Menulog, but have selected to not have them store it - there are very few cases where I do select to have it stored.

 

I have not used it with 2talk or skinny for quite some time.

 

As far as I have seen it has not been compromised.

Odd. Just had bogus transaction appear on our credit card in the last week.
We did just have an overseas trip and had an abnormally large (for us) number of transactions recently - so suspected this might have been the most likely source of details being taken.

 


However, our card is normally seldom used when we are in NZ.
The only recurring payments it is used for here is skinny, 2talk and bigpipe.

Curious....(or coincidence)?

i have bigpipe as well but pay it using my 2nd work credit card, which havent had any issues with

 

 

 

the bank didnt catch the second round of fraudulent activity like they did the first time, the second time, someone in China was using my CC to buy 500$ of itunes store junk to 2 different apple ids.

I also had fraudulent transactions about 2 months ago. Of the companies above card was registered with Skinny (and Skinny Direct), but is also registered with others not mentioned yet. Was notified by bank as I did not notice, about 20 fraudulent transactions to a total of approx $1500.

I used Menulog just the other night but didn't store my credit card details - BigPipe also charge my credit card. Don't have 2talk or Skinny anymore. No compromise here.

Interestingly Bigpipe have this on their FAQs (was just looking at what other payment options I could use - CC only as I thought).

 

Is my card information secure?

 

Absolutely. We don't store all your payment information locally - just enough for you to be able to identify which card you are using. That's the card type, the last 4 digits of the card, card name and expiry date. The full card information is stored with a third party who complies with the Payment Card Industry's (PCI) stringent standards.

 

 

 

Not sure how Skinny or 2talk handle/store the data.

 

I can see Skinny have more of the CC number visible when I look at my details ie the first 6 digits some stars and the last 4 digits - maybe they store the details within their system.

I've probably had my card replaced about 4-5 times now over the past 10 years due to being compromised. 

 

I really really really really wish banks in NZ would offer virtual card numbers, it's such a PITA when you have to replace the physical card when there is no reason for needing to do this since the odds these days of the physical card being compromised are minimal. Most compromises are due to online fraud, and if you're using virtual card numbers then life is so much easier for both the banks and customers.

I more wish that established billing relationships would continue and I would have somewhere online to see who has one and that I can revoke their access, like you get with paypal subscriptions. The card banking industry is stuck in the 1960s where a piece of plastic with numbers matters and is important and DONT LET ANYONE ELSE SEE THOSE NUMBERS! because WTF?! Seriously. Get something to replace it already.

 

I don't care if one of my cards is compromised, I use it on low value never stored crap that if its compromised then its the banks problem anyway and I will just get another one.

 

My other cards I guard like anything. Never use online with anyone but paypal or alipay (Or microsoft or google who I actually somewhat trust to be okish) - and my GEM visa I only dust off for over $250 purchases online with anyone so I watch it like a hawk. They have in the past thought it had being compromised a few times because I dared to actually use it but got it re-activated in the end after I found it not working and called them up.

 

I have 2talk on my dont care card so will have a closer look at transactions but TBH for a dont care card its been a long time without compromise.

I used PayPal with Jetstar - this way if they cancel or mess me around I can just log a dispute via PayPal to get my money back.

Must be just the BNZ version then. I did ask for a PIN one, but they said it wasn't possible.

I thought it was the card, didn't realise it was the banks version of the card.

Had PIN for ATM, but wouldn't work when buying something in shop, had to sign.

A friend recently had fraudulent transactions on her card.  Something to do with the Apple account.  Not totally sure of the details but resulted in cancelled and replaced card and lengthy phone calls with the muppets at Apple call centre to get the transactions reversed.
