That's not really very smart of them.

I mean, what's the difference between the card they're planning to launch and NZ Post's loaded card? (www.loadedcard.co.nz)

Delorean: Yes, they are a MasterCard Recharge - Similar to the Travel Card that both ANZ/NBNZ currently have - seems quite odd when every other bank uses the debt Visa that takes money directly from you chq or savings account.

This system you have to 'recharge' the card!! seems a waist of time, you might as well go the post office and get a Prezzy Card and once it used, chuck it and get a new one.

They are completely different products that a Prezzy Card. Prezzy cards don't have a PIN so can't be used in an ATM or at many retailers who's systems won't accept this card type such as New World or Pak 'n Save Fuel or in a Taxi where they run offline processing.

The cards used for the ANZ Travel Cards and ANZ recharge cards have a mag stripe as well as chip and PIN so will work anywhere.

@ sbiddle - I was not trying to evaluate the finer details of the product, but merely stating the fact they are closer aligned to the 'Prezzy Card' concept than the Visa Debit concept the other banks offer. - you could even debate they are the same as the Loaded Card as mentioned before as i think they have a PIN?? (please correct me if i am wrong :)

As the Visa Debit product requires no customer thought or change in they way they use the card, it used like the eftpos card. whereas this one you need to 'recharge' and keep an eye on the balance which isn't visible in the standard Internet Banking Portal.

The Loaded Card does have a pin, though its not issued on the spot (NZ Post sends it away to come back with your name on the card - not embossed - just printed).

Loaded Card can be topped up by bill payment (same as the ANZ travel card and the upcoming Recharge Mastercard).

My experience with Loaded however - uggh - overseas outsourced call centre - don't try chargebacks, or getting auths removed - they have no idea! Now i'm happy with my ASB Debit Visa. I presume ANZ's Cust Service is a tad better though with their upcoming MasterCard Recharge - hopefully!

I'd have to disagree with you there, my authorisation charges have been crossed off fine. Can't comment about the chargebacks though.

Most hotels take up to five days to remove auths - but will fax the merchant if requested and get it removed same day. You think I could get a fax number off loaded?
