scottjpalmer: I think #60 (from memory) for the hoppy kick in the mouth that I love.

That would be the Kangabrew?

Bought a 6 pack of Chocolate Moose tonight from New World (They're on sale too). Quite a nice tipple. The chocolate is very understated and isn't too hoppy on the aftertaste at all. I need more beer tips and will be trying most of the ones mentioned here (if I haven't already) I would think.

BrentR: Is anyone else a fan of Yeastie Boys Rex Attitude?

Very unique taste, but one that I enjoy :)

This was the only beer at Beervana last year that I had to pour.. Tasted like gumboots...

Beer Beer Beer - Where do I start!!!!!!!!

My personal fave at the moment is Cassel & Sons Milk Stout - Just smooth & creamy - Too easy to drink.

Monkey Wizard Brewery from Riwaka, Nelson is a small little brewery - Really good too!

Emerson's Taieri George is a great beer - a Hot Cross Bun in a bottle - Only a seasonal release each March - Get it while it lasts.

Hop Zombie - Fantastic - Crazy flavours.

Twisted Ankle from The Twisted Hop was always a good drop - Just back into production again post earthquake I understand.

Cheers

Hah, you won't be able to find Hop Zombie anymore. You should probably be drinking any you have now, it won't age well.

I've heard from Luke (the brewer) there won't be any HZ till 2013/2014 because of the Hop Shortage.

3.5 pages and no mention of Renaissance Stonecutter
:(

Best strong Scotch Ale ever tasted - in Wellington best places to get it are Central Wines/Spirits (Waring Taylor St) & Regional (by the Basin) - 1.25L Rigger for ~$11 (ish - can't quite remember)

I had to Google what 1.25 rigger was and found a pic here http://www.deadgoodbeerevents.com/  cant say I have seen them before but the price is attractive.

A colleague informs me that Central sells 1L riggers (just think plastic fill-your-own, except Dean at Central has them pre-filled ready to go) for $13 (still good as Stonecutter in the supermarket is $8-9 for 500mL)

Regional lets you re-fill your riggers, and are typically 1.25L for about the same price.

Big difference for me, is Central is ground floor of the building I work in, and regional is waaaay across town ..... :)
Oh yeah - Central has an on-license as well as an off & currently does 1.5L (the big glass ones) jugs of stonecutter for $20

As for Renaissance themselves, just google renaissance brewery blenheim (they share the same building as 8-wired)

Right, a quick visit to Moore Wilsons Porirua and now I can say I have tried both Yeastie Boys Rex Attitude and the Renaissance Stonecutter. Both good but for its unusual taste I think I prefer the Rex.

Emerson's make some excellent brews, I regret not going on a brewery tour before I left Dunedin. I even went to school with Richard (Emerson).

One of my favourite NZ beers is Mac's Hop Rocker. One of the best pilsners I've ever had (and I've had a few...).
I found a bar in Melbourne that sells it - The Imperial on Bourke. A bit pricey but well worth it for the memories. Another great beer spot in Melbourne is Mrs Parmas on Little Bourke St. They specialise in VIC cottage breweries - had a few nice pints in there (or schooners?)

Here in Perth we have Little Creatures, a bit commercialised now, but still an excellent drop. At the end of a night out in Freo I ended up drinking a porter called Dreadnought with some colleagues - awesome!! They won't even sell it in pints, runs in around 7 percent.

Now based in Perth WA.
