This thread is another continuation on from the Nokia N95 thread.

This thread is for things about the N95 other than the GPS, like software updates, camera, etc as there is another thread for this.

Thanks.

Perhaps there should be a prize for the first person to spot the firmware update for the A/P release model? Cool

Hey guys,

Does anyone know where I should be uploading ringtones and sounds (mp3) so they don't appear in my MP3 player... I just want to use them as message tones or rings etc however I don't want these short clips playing from my 'all songs' playlist.

cheers
Barry

Have you tried putting them in the "Simple" sounds folder?

With the upcoming blackout on useage data from Vodafone, now would be a good time to become familiar with the log in the N95 ! Will allow you to track your usage so you dont run over your allocatioted minutes etc.
Remember, to clear the logs, the factory default unloack is "12345"

I have to call them every few days anyway as they don't support NP (Number Portability) on their website 'My Vodafone' yet however i'm on broadband 200 so pretty safe.

To everyone that wonders how voip works on HSDPA, well just great, I push all my calls through it now, works just as well as a standard call and uses g729 so a broadband 200 plan will give you close to 1000 minutes talktime over voip.

Hmm, 30 minutes a day for $40 a month is pretty tempting. What VOIP client are you useing? What happens when you are outside a 3G area?

You can select call preference to voip and secondary to standard GSM, using the standard voip client within the N95.

Obviously you need a voip provider, I'm using my own asterisk server which has 3 peers to italk, WGTN, AKLD & CHCH, so all calls to those locations are free due to my monthly subscription of $9.95 per number but then people can also call me from those 3 destinations (havent got inbound sip working yet) at a local call.

Cell phone calls cost me 29c from italk and all other destinations are real cheap too.

An interesting article about a bug in the camera software, even in the new version.

Cant see it going much lower in the short term, especially given the suggestion that Voda will intro it at $1500. Long term, of course the price will drop but you wont have had the enjoyment of owning such a nice piece of gear :-)

Mmmm, I just saw the N95 on nzherald.co.nz via Mediaone, those little video adverts that display on the right hand side...
No idea if it will still be there but http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/story.cfm?c_id=5&objectid=10442809

Find it odd that they would advertise it in NZ but perhaps they haven't locked it down by IP based advertising...

Loving my N95, just cant wait for a firmware upgrade.

Having an issue with audio using bluetooth headset, it's a H820 (I think) by motorola, works fine most of the time, but sometimes pauses audio for 10-30 seconds for no apparent reason, sometimes it's just for 1 second but can be annoying, I've even had it die on me so bad that I couldn't turn it off, this was while listing to music then answering a call using the handsfree part of the H820... It answered the call, let me talk but after the call ended, everything froze, need to try it again and see if it happens again.

Hi Barry,

I presume you are already on the 11.... firmware? If not then an update is available!

I updated last weekend and have had no problems thusfar. Symbian-Freak has the changelog (article there somewhere, info sourced by me!), but so far I've noticed multimedia menu is now usable speed-wise, and the red tint in photographs is now gone completely as far as I can tell. Otherwise still seems the same for me so far, although I haven't had a chance yet to see whether the WiFi is improved as reported.

In regards to your headset issue - check out n95users forum. There is a guy there who was having exactly the same problem until he used a fix posted up by another forum member. Will hopefully sort you out too!

RbNutz: Just buy the phone. You'll love the phone so much that you won't even care if it drops within weeks because you'll have had the phone to use in that time. I'm not kidding. . .

. . . I still love this phone beyond reason. . . like for example today I accidentally met Tommy the Clown and took a quick video interview with him for a med school project I have on at the moment. . . how convenient. . .

Here are a few software recommendations for you all:

IVCM 2 (call manager)
Salling Clicker (control powerpoint/media player/winamp etc via BT or WiFi)
ScanR
MSDict (I have the medical dictionary, very handy)
Sensible Sudoku
C2 Doom

And for you other crusty oldschool gamers look out for Bitmap Brothers classics, Chaos Engine already out, and Speedball 2 on the way soon! (and if you're a real crusty old gamer like me then Bubble Bobble is a must!)
