Hi

I have an N95. I advanced the time an hour but left it in the GMT +12 zone so that it is on the correct time for our new Daylight Saving Time. This has moved appointments back by an hour in my diary on the phone. Eg an appointment which was for 3:30pm on Friday 05 October changed to 2:30pm.

I sync with Outlook on a windows PC which has the patch for daylight savings time applied. The same appointment is correctly showing as 3:30 in Outlook. I have tried deleting the appointment, syncing (which removes it in both locations) and then re-entering the appointment in Outlook at 3:30pm then sync and the phone shows the appointment at 2:30 still.

Does anybody know about an update for the Nokia N95 that will fix this? I found an update for an E series phone but this doesnt fix it. Is everybody else having the same problem?

I made the manual change on my E90 but I don't use the calendar functions, I do notice the problem with my Mail for Exchange inbox though with emails showing the incorrect time they were received.

I expect that over night this Saturday the daylight savings change will be made by our phones automatically, after a manual change back an hour again all will be good until the other end of the daylight saving season. Hopefully Nokia will spit out a fix before then!!

I questioned the method of changing timezone though, won't it be easier to just change the clock/time instead of timezone? that way you still keep the same timezone, and won't change the calendar schedule/appointment (at least keep this for this week only).

My understanding is that changing the timezone to a GMT+13 country would fix the problem 100% for this week but I'm too lazy to work out which of the countries in the E90 are +13 (if any) so I'll just live with it until Sunday.

As I understand it, it is the NOT changing the timezone that causes the issues above Chiefie, because the synch to Exchange / Outlook uses the GMT+X value set in the device not the the devices actual clock so when it comes time to displaying an appointment time etc the time set in the device is irrelevant.

Yes, Scott is correct - I changed the time by an hour not the timezone - changing to a GMT +13 timezone for the next week would work around the problem. There is only one small problem with this ...

When choosing a timezone on the phone you have to do it by choosing the country. The Christmas Island timezone is the only one that would be suitable to change to but this isnt even in the country database on the phone. Damn! Looks like I will need to change my travel plans to go to the Christmas Island this week because my phone wont have the correct time :p

I've emailed Nokia, I strongly encourage everyone affected to do the same :-) I will post their reply when I have one.

With regard to your email, the Daylight Savings settings on the phone will be operative from the 7th of October 2007.

Currently, we do not have a software patch that would accommodate the recent changes in the Daylight Savings schedule.

In this in stance, I would suggest that you refer to the steps below to adjust the date and time settings on your Nokia N95.

1) Go to the “Date & Time” settings
“Menu” > “Tools” > “Settings” > “Date & Time”

2) Under the “Date & Time” settings please select the following:
a) “Time” > key in the correct time
b) “Time zone” > select the correct time zone (GMT +12:00)
c) “Network Operator Time” > “On”

When the "Network Operator Time" is set to "On", the phone’s “Date & Time” setting will be updated according to your network’s time display.

7 October is the date that Daylight Saving used to commence.  I wonder if there will be an update before the end of daylight saving - if not, appointments in the final 2 weeks of daylight saving time will be out by an hour.

It just shows how clueless these companies are. Updating the device's clock is not a problem - you can manually change the time.

Appointments, synchronisation to servers, VPN access all depend of accurate time. These people are really clueless when it comes to anything more complex...

Silly that they provide instructions on changing the time when this does not address the issue of synchronisation.

Also their comments about setting the network operator time to on won't help here I don't think. When I travel in the US, my time is usually adjusted automatically when this setting is selected. Vodafone appear not to have enabled whatever setting is required to have the time changed on the phone by the network.

i've got the same issue - i've rebooted, factory reset, redone the firmware and installed the "so called" fix

Nothing works - my appointments are still out by an hour

anyone anyone got a work around???

It would be fine if Vodafone supported this however they don't! In all my travels I've only come across probably 3 or 4 GSM networks who do this which from memory were all Swedish & Finnish.

I'd be interested to know why networks don't use this feature, there must be a reason!

The problem of out of sync appointments is not something to do with the network operator. The problem is in the phone. The phone must know what date range that daylight saving is applicable for for the selected time zone on the phone. It needs to know the offset for daylight saving in this timezone too (sometimes it is not an hour). It can then apply this to any appointments (which are defined as a time relative to UTC) taking into account current time zone you are in according to the phone and any daylight saving offset.

I replied to Nokia asking for an update prior to the final 2 weeks of NZ daylight saving time and they said they have forwarded it on to the relevant people. The NZ government announced the change to daylight saving 6 months ago. I noticed that updates for some Nokia phones to accomodate changes to daylight saving time in USA in 2007 were released.

Set your timezone to tonga as they are GMT+13 which is the same as nz daylight savings time, you can switch back to nz once the old daylight savings times kick in

The joys of living at the bottom of the world. Nokia doesn't care about 'lil old NZ.
BTW Blackberry has released an update.

I can confirm that the Tonga fix does work, just have to change again next week, and probably next year when we change back!
