i'm updating my phone to firmware

so far its been going for an hour and a half, and is still only "preparing" upgrade.

i'm a bit too aprehensive to unplug and start again for fear of bricking my phone... is this normal?

help me obi wan's... you're my only hope.

Nope not normal at all whole update should take about 20 minutes.

Has it finished downloading the update?

That's what took the longest for me, then after that the install was 5 minutes or so.

If it hasn't even doanloaded the update then just unplug it and you should be fine (disclaimer: dont hold me responsible if it bricks it still)
 I did this when updating the release firmware to the 11 version and i have been fine since then.

Are you running Vista by any chance? There are reports on Symbian-related forums about the recent release of Nokia Software Update experiencing issues under Vista for some people.

My laptop failed to boot into Windowsafter the install of the Vista SP1 update so I had to reformat and start again. Back to XP now, and the update went perfectly.

actually yes i am on vista.

will grab the GF's laptop, which is still on XP.
