Hi All,

My N95 8Gb died for some reason, I get white screen of death when booting.

Even CALL+3+* at startup would'nt fix it. Anyway sent it to e-Town for repairs and they send it off to there techie who seemed to think he could fix it.

My question is - how do they fix it? I assume they have some sort of cable or some tool to flash the firmware directly since it cant be done via the OS on the phone since it is dead?

Is it anything to do with the metal contacts on the back of the phone near the sim?

You can reflash it without needing the to operate the phone, just as long as NSU recognises its there.

It'll either be fixed with a reflash, or it could be that the flex cable died (a known problem with slider phones and easily fixed).

If I'm thinking of the right bit, I doubt its the contacts causing the problem (phone doesn't need the SIM in order to boot up).

I didnt think the contacts were related to the phone dying, but was more asking if they were where the service people connect the reflashing cable.

How do you get NSU to update a phone it cant talk to? The version I have which is the latest always says searching for phone.

Does the flex cable problem make the screen go white? I have heard that if its a flex cable problem the phone will still function but you simply cant see anything.....

A few other international N95 forums talk about JAF and Phoenix flash boxes, but I dont really know what they are....

If its the flex cable then you will still see everything as per normal via TV-Out...

The always searching for phone thing could be related to any number of problems with cable drivers, PC Suite, NSU and/or Vista. Its not neccessarily related to a fault on the phone.

Well eTown have had word from there repair agent that the phone is stuffed and needs to be replaced. The manager said he would have to talk to his boss tomorrow about giving me a new one.

Will have too see what happens - eTown better do the right thing!
