Explain this date changing thing in a bit more detail please. I just purchased a 7 day licence and I'd like to extend. What should I do exactly?

Apparently it used to work, not sure about now. Basically before you purchase the license you change the phones date to a date in the future (say in 2010), then when the license is applied it is set to run until 3 days after the date you chose.

As I say, apparently this used to work, but I never tried it (what would have been the point, given the NZ maps support?). No idea whether it still works, but seems like something that is easily fixed (check the date on the other end), so I doubt it.

bonkiebonks:
sqlpro: Hi there
i just installed news Maps beta and map loader but still map size is 6.6mb only ! any ideas?
btw i downloaded from following link
http://www.nokia.com/A4815184

thanks for the advise.

I had the same problem.

I resolved it by running the newly installed Maps 2.0 Beta, and only then try downloading the new map using Maploader 1.3.5.

Thank you very much for that bonkiebonks. that worked beautifully and hamilton looking nice :) so far i can find all friends places.

Just dl'd the Maps 2.0 new version - yet to test on the street. In the meantime, seem to be unable to get directions. e.g. from my current postion (GPS enabled) then select a favourite (say, home) and then driving directions to. App then tells me driving direcctions not available in this region.

*IF* the GPS is not connected Maps appears to be fine with mapping out a path for my wee journey.

I just tried it out and I got the same error message saying "drive/walk" is not available.  Does this mean this is the best we can get for NZ?

Yep, Drive/walk are paid navigation options (with voice), which means not yet supported for us. Routing demonstration is as good as it gets currently.

Cool. Now can anyone tell me how can i get something similar working on an N810 Internet Tablet. I gave up after trying a few other solutions and finding out that NZ maps were either unavailable or not very accurate. I surely would love to have something similar onto the N810 if possible :'(

PLEASE! please.

YES! I'm stoked, after spending hours on the net searching, I finally found this post... and I'm 'doing it' now...

I had numerous problems, but eventually...

I'm a bit of a noob, and it took me hours to get this right, so I've outlined the successful steps I took (actually still taking as I write).

The uber brief version is you need to:
Download & install Maps 2.0 on to your phone from here: http://www.nokia.com/betalabs/maps

I then ran Map Loader from on my PC... and waited with baited breath... (waiting now...).

I was very dissapointed to discover that NZ Maps was still 6.6MB. I figure I have to go and find that MapLoader 1.3.5 somehow... previous links haven't worked.

I finally found Nokia Map Loader 1.3.5 here: http://nds1.nokia.com/NOKIA_COM_1/Microsites/BetaLabs/applications/apps/NokiaMaploaderSetup.exe
...or if you are sharper than me, you'l find it on the same site I posted for Nokia Maps 2.0 under the download flash drop-down box... ie. here: http://www.nokia.com/betalabs/maps

Upon loading MapLoader 1.3.5, a message informed me that new map data was available... and my frustration finally turned to relief as I saw the new 12.5MB maps, and downloaded / installed etc.

Note: I also called Nokia, and emailed them today... Geekzone eats nokia basic customer service for lunch...
Phone call result was "sorry, we dont release that info, or I dont have it - I suggest you just watch the website"

Email result was: "Please download Map Loader, and install maps (with some good instructions) - but no 1.3.5, or maps 2.0. <-- I suppose this is to be expected given Beta...

Anyway, I'm happy, and I hope someone else can find experience / links useful... cause it was a nightmare for me.

*** Navigation is now availble with Nokia Maps in NZ ***

OK.. I thought I posted before I went for my drive... but I must have lost it...

Anyway, I just purchased a 30-day license for Navigation for "Australia & New Zealand" (on my N95 / Maps 2.0 etc).

The chick started telling me where to turn to get from my house (Clarks Beack, Franklin, Auckland(ish) ), to my office in Penrose. I deliberately missed some turns, and she recalculated where I should go, and advised. I don't think she has the dialogue for "Idiot, turn around"... but the graphics told me when I had started down a dead end, and needed to do a U-turn.

As far as I know, this is a first... I'm guessing Nokia just updated something today.

That was the most fun $20 I've spent in a long time.

Now, I just need a car-charger, so I don't run out of batter on the way to work.

I had a lot of things I really had to do today... but hey... now I can drive with my eyes closed!

Ok maybe I am thick.

I am on maploader 1.3.5 and beta 2.0 on the phone, which is installed and has been run once.

Why am I still getting only the 6.4 meg maps?

hmmm...odd. Only thing I can suggest is to delete MapLoader from your PC and try again.
