According to the forums at dailymobile.se there's been a lot of improvement to the general interface and there's the long-awaited Kinetic scrolling along with widgetised homescreen and other improvements and bug fixes.

Al in all, I am looking forward to going home and updating my firmware tonight...nothing OTA for my handset as yet.

OK - changed my product code to NZ red, using Nemesis and then went direct to Nokia NSU to download v40.0.005

Worked a treat!

So far the differences are as follows:

Kinetic scrolling
Slightly changed (more legible) font
Ovi maps now supports landscape mode
When entering txt, if turned landscape, qwerty keyboard is automatically activated
Snappier response throughout the phone
Better touchscreen response
New homescreen - now has the Nokia 5530 homescreen options - if contacts is chosen, you have the contacts carousel at the top, with the shortcuts at the bottom and a there's a new music player widget which even shows album art on the home screen
Lots of bug fixes

Overall it's a significant update and a long-awaited one.

I will update as I discover new things, for anyone that's interested.

Since doing the update my 5800 is very unstable and re-starts often. Can you go back to old firmware?

Not easily., and certainly not through the NSU updater or OTA download.

It is posdibe if you have the firmware files and correct software but unless you know exactly what you're doing you'll very easily brick your phone.

Did you hard reset after installing the new firmware? Apparently this can help.

Yeah, I did a hard reset after the update (though not straight away) and it has been essentially flawless since
