Technofreak: Yes there is.  Go to this link and follow the instructions.

http://symbianworld.org/7581-tutorials-download-free-apps-from-ovi-store-directly-to-your-computer/

Basically you add the word "download" at the end to the character string in the address bar of your browser once you have selected the app you want.

I can download them... But get this message

In fact I cant even get onto Ovi Store directly from my N8.

I get a green bar at the top with ovi and a note saying "Welcome to the Ovi Store" But it is a blank page... The URL of this page is http://store.ovi.mobi/default/index/clientsplash

And if I click on the link for the apps that comes through from Ovi Store online via my PC... my N8 also browses to this page... How can I get any content from the ovi store?

... Might be a question for Nik or Brent

Did you follow the instructions exactly?  My comments were a brief summary of what to do.  I used these instructions last week to download the latest version of Opera Mobile to my computer.  You should end up with a .sis file.

I presume you have registered with Ovi Store on your N8 and or set up the N8 as your device?

Hmmm I've just re read the info about downloading the files to your PC.  There was a disclaimer saying the the download to PC method only worked with free apps. :(

Starplay: Is there any way to download apps from the Ovi Store to my N8 through my PC.

When looking at apps the only option is to be sent a link via SMS and I dont want to use too much airtime as I already have spent quite a it on data today already.

Thanks

Once you have the sms link I think you can still download via WiFi rather than via the mobile internet.  Prob depends on how you have your phone set up to access data and what your default acces point for data is.

The panorama is a free app... but it is just a DM file.... Im sure Nik or Brent will be able to help me out... I know that Nik has downloaded it as he was talking about it in the thread earlier on... Do you know of anymore ways to get into the Ovi store from your phone?

Have you tried the Ovi store button (looks like a shopping bag with the word "store" underneath it) in the Applications menu.  This takes you straight to the Ovi store.

I did some Googling and found this on this site http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/t5/Nseries-and-S60-Smartphones/N8-Ovi-store-does-not-load-correctly/m-p/838169

I'm not sure this is what you need to do as he/she may not be talking about your exact issue but might be worth a try.

i had the same problem before, thank god i got mine working.

try to see if it works for you.

first unstall ovi from your mobile device(there were two ovi softwares on my device, one of them are not able to unistall, ignore that one) then uninstall your pc version ovi suit even you have the newest version.

after unstall and restart both your pc and mobile.  then install Pc version ovi suit and restart pc again and connect it to your device, at this point, the PC Ovi suit will be able to find your N8 and the Mobile device should promt you to install Ovi to your Mobile.

Now mine is working smooth and downloading many softwares already.  will try them out soon to see what to keep.

I think the video calling thing is actually a network issue thing as im trying off vodafone and the others are on 2degrees and Telecom... so maybe ill have to try and find someone on Vodafone to try it to... I remember reading somewhere that video calling is not supported between networks.
