lyonrouge:
4. Is that compatible with contacts stored on an exchange server?

It is, however there's an extra step. If you're using Exchange, there's an option at the bottom letting you search the Exchange server for a contact that matches.

thanks, that helps a lot. One more for my wish list, the ability to play videos sequentially, rather than opening them one by one, notably flash (FLV) files.

What on earth is OVI Suite doing now? I was hoping that the great fix pack maybe on the way, but no, it just seems to want to make me wait for "another activity"?

no, really, what the hell is it doing?

All fine on my Win7 64 machine.

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their xDSL broadband network faster and even more now as they are upgrading their rural Conklins. If your still stuck on ADSL or VDSL, why not spend $195 on a master filter install to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?
I install - Naked DSL, DSL Master Splitters, VoIP, data cabling and general computer support for home and small business.

nikrolls:
lyonrouge: Will the updated virtual keyboard work in a similar fashion to a BlueTooth keyboard?

By that do you mean that you will still see the application you're in while typing, for reference etc? As far as I can tell, yes. This makes it similar (if not the same) to the keyboard used in the Ovi Maps 3.06 public beta (which I definitely recommend downloading if you're interested in new features or what the keyboard will look like, as it's very stable and brings some great new features). The difference between this and the new software is that this will show up by default rather than the programmer having to use specific code to implement it.

Definitely note that new features will be coming to existing handsets so there is no downside to buying earlier rather than later. We now have an evolving software platform where backporting new features is not necessary meaning it will consistently be tweaked and improved to perfection based heavily on user feedback. Features such as the portrait QWERTY, split-screen keyboard, full Swype integration and much more are based on feedback that Nokia collect from blogs, comments and forums just like this.

Is the Maps 3.06 beat compatible with the latest OVI? I'm stuck as "retrieving the available maps"... screen with the spinning circle...

when I reinstall the N8 I would dearly love to use RDP, does anyone know of one that works (ideally, one that understand HDMI and allows higher resolution when connected)?

Note: Telexy Networks SymRDP 1.0 crashes and there is no support from that vendor

oh, has anyone worked out what the OVI search engine is based on? I'm speculating "random character generator".

The latest Ovi Suite is compatible with Ovi Maps 3.06. Also note that 3.06 may be out of beta by now ... check in the Ovi Store to see if it's available.

I'm not sure if I understand your last two questions about the RDP and the search engine ... can you elaborate?

RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol), available on WM6.1 (depending on firmware vendor) and iPhone (havn't tested Android and net yet available on WM7), however, N8 has the hardware/firmware upperhand with BlueTooth Keyboard and Mouse support and HDMI output, an RDP client could (if implemented well) turn it into the ultimate mobile thin client.

Search for "Remote Desktop" returns MarvTheMiner2 (free version), Snake Revolution, FingerPrint Scanner, Facebook Chat, etc, not even related to the search.

Another example, enter "Maps" three Nokia Maps icons (no indication as to what differentiates them), select the one marked "New" and then enter the phone model (N8) and the list changes to range of maps products, none of which match the one the user selected on the initial screen.
