Do you happen to know if there is anyway to sync a Blackberry 8310 Curve with Microsoft ActiveSync rather than the Blackberry Desktop manager?

All I am trying to do is sync Outlook calendar and contacts, not the mail.

The Blackberry Desktop manager seems to take over your computer and wants to control your mail.

Someone told me that you can use Activesync, but when I connect the USB, activesync detects the blackberry, then trys each of the COM ports and finally comes back and says error.

If you go to Synchronize, Configuration, Configure Synch, you shoud be able to tell Desktop Manager to only sync what you want it to.  I have mine set to skip mail and it works fine.

Here is what you could do:

1) If you have a BIS account and don't need SMS.

Use the BB desktop sync software your cal and tasks etc
To stop your email coming in, go to (on your BB Curve) :connections manager/mobile network options/ and change data services from YES to NO, this will stop all data getting through.

Or 2) if you're on BIS and don't want email but still want SMS:

Use the BB desktop sync software your cal and tasks etc
You could go online to http://bis.ap.blackberry.com/html?brand=vodanz , log in and delete the account you have setup or forward the mail to another account like gmail.

Cheers
