There seems to be a known bug in the shipping Telecom 9700 software where phone numbers aren't recognized in the SMS application. It's fixed in a later OS build.

How do you get the latest BlackBerry software?  Wireless update doesn't see it.  Does there need to be a Telecom specific build?

Hi Rod, I usually use the Blackberry Desktop software to download the latest device firmware.

That screwed up my BB a while ago (only time I've ever had a problem doing it) which meant that I had to reflash the thing manually which was a pain but doable.  In that case I had to go to the BB site, find the device firmware download section, select my device and yes, select "Telecom NZ" to get the specific Telecom NZ build.

So if the Blackberry desktop software is not working for you there is another route.  My recollection is that it was a pain in the butt finding the download page on the BB site.  I'm pretty sure that after surfing round the site for a while I was totally defeated and resorted to Google.  Eventually I found a bunch of threads regarding "bricking" your phone and naturally these referred to the BB page where you can download the firmware for your phone so that you can unbrick it.

I downloaded the Blackberry for Mac software.  I recall having problems in the past but this worked great and upgraded everything nicely.
