BlackBerry software updates have gone wireless at Vodafone

Vodafone has launched wireless updates for BlackBerry smartphones. Now BlackBerry smartphone users can easily update their  operating system (OS) software to the latest version over Vodafone’s  mobile network.

Wireless Update makes it easier for users to get the latest BlackBerry OS software updates for their BlackBerry smartphone, allowing them to take advantage of performance improvements as well as the other enhancements.

Vodafone Smartphone manager, Tom Morton says, “Wireless Update for BlackBerry smartphones makes it easier for Vodafone customers to update the software on their handset, allowing them to benefit from the latest improvements.”

The feature also gives BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrators an easier way to manage their fleet of BlackBerry smartphones and their operating software, allowing them to easily roll out both optional and mandatory updates to their end users.

Performing a wireless update can be done either by the user through the Options menu on the smartphone or by BlackBerry Enterprise Server  administrators “pushing” an update to their end users.

The Wireless Update feature is available for all BlackBerry smartphones currently sold at Vodafone, which includes the BlackBerry Curve 8520 and the BlackBerry Bold 9700 smartphones.

For more information about wireless updates, and additional help including step by step instructions on how to use the Wireless Update feature please visit: www.vodafone.co.nz/blackberry

I for one am very happy with this news :)

My views are mine and don't necessarily reflect that of my employer.

nearly 2 years late but better late than never. Definitely, a major feature for BES administrators managing large device fleets as they now can control device upgrades wirelessly to individual users or groups of users, even at different times like after hours for example. Just make users are not on the 10MB blackberry plan. ;-)
Next thing is voda need to release firmwares more regularly, especially major releases like OS 5 or 6 for older devices.
