Dunnersfella: I'd flag the dongle and use your laptop - it's far easier to live with compared to so called 'smart TV' functionality...

It is, although the sony does have youtube, and netflix (or similar), which do work quite well. But you can either connect it to a router using an ethernet cable, or connect it to a laptop via a crossover cable.

My laptop is wireless - so a crossover cable would work, rather than buying a dongle? ?Have to say at this point I don't know what advantages there are - except size of image, for me to use this function.

It can be a bit fiddly, as you have to setup 'internet sharing' on the computer. I have got it working on an old XP computer.
Otherwise you can just connect your laptop to the TV using an HDMI cable, which maybe better.
I may get a wireless dongle if I see one cheap somewhere.

All things considered - a big bonus for me!

Nice TV at a good price, you won't be disappointed.
Pretty sure the Sony's can do Quickflix, so if that is something you may be interested in, look at the dongle (or run a LAN cable to it temporarily to see if it's for you)
