My m4s arrived as well.  The courier driver was a little flustered.

He said they were shipped with no signature required.  The item description was clearly marked on the packet.

After he put them in the letter box a dodgy looking bloke tried to grab them.  Not sure what the courier driver did but he then brought them down the driveway, rang the bell and gave them to me.

So humans suck and courier drivers rule.  Why on earth does container door ship $400 headphones with no signature required?

Haven't tried the headphones yet because meetings and it's still doing the firmware update.

Your courier may not suck, but there are plenty who do.

We get signature required parcels not signature signed for because "covid" at least twice a week.  I read the riot act to the manager of our local courier run guy, and things improved a bit since, but a lot of couriers are ignoring the signature required part.

I'd send a message to container door advising them you are unhappy with the no signature required and clearly marked packaging as that's terrible.

The courier driver dropped mine off at the front door and hid it under our door mat..... which resulted in an obvious bulge.

Good effort on the courier driver, but am surprised a well marked package is non-signature like you mentioned.

I have to say I am not super impressed with the change from gen 1 to gen 4.  The build quality is cheaper.  The headphones are physically smaller which probably is ok for most people but I have a bigger than normal head.  Sound quality is ok but I think the base is a bit more muffled and over boosted which ironically is how their latest Bluetooth speakers are.  I think you sign up for that when you buy Sony so not the end of the world.

They still have features I want - app connectivity and usb c but I am wondering if I should on sell them and pick up the Bose 700s which I could use for work calls as well.

I was impressed with our courier driver. He hid the package behind a bush and left a card in the letter box.

After much rushed research prior to going to Level 4, I grabbed the Bose NC 700 over the X3 based on the comments on the mics for call quality.

Only times people have said anything is when Bluetooth has caused issues in sound quality, not the mic array.

fully recommend the NC 700 for conference calls.

Rumours have been circulating for a while about Sonos potentially releasing headphones, and it sounds like they have recently filed a patent application.

You'd wonder why they would want to enter a saturated market, especially when Apple is throwing a lot of money around in that product segment, but it sounds like they will have a major advantage in their ability to integrate with existing Sonos setups. Would you consider buying such a product if it has audio quality, noise cancellation and price comparable to Bose 700, Sennheiser PXC550, etc?

I like Sonos but think they are very overpriced. Not sure if I were them I'd jump into a market with plenty of nearly perfect options, but I guess there will be some brand loyalty and consumers who will think it will create better synergy with other stuff in their homes/lives.

Shades of Nikon/Olympus etc.  There are plenty of good options in a market that is now very mature and capable technology, and where a competitor product is doing really well (cellphones) too.

Battery life would be interesting if it's a network connected headphone.

The only true benefit I could see would be linking audio from a sound bar to a pair of headphones, something that can already be done with a low latency Bluetooth codec or SCMS-T that keeps everything digital and does the processing in the headphones to keep delay as low as possible...

3-4 years ago it might have been a thing.

Long term I wouldn't be surprised if Apple and Samsung end up owning most of the market, with companies like Bose and Sennheiser left to fight over the scraps at the premium end.

On the cheaper end of the spectrum, my Edifier x3 TWS Wireless Bluetooth Earphones just arrived from Aliexpress, and for $34 delivered (four weeks), they're pretty decent.

Connection via bluetooth was seamless and range is decent (still working 10m away with a concrete wall between me and the computer / Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260). Buttons (pause, skip) are okay. Don't think I can change volume though. Am in the process of testing battery duration. Doubt they'll fall out of my ears if I went for a run. Just did a quick 5 minute jump and squat and octopus arms and head shake, and the only that dropped was my breath. On a comfort level, does get a bit warm in the ears. Might try a different earbud size.

This is my first time using wireless in-ear headphones, so I can't make any comparisons to a similar product. To little surprise, these don't compete sound-wise with my Sennheiser HD 380 pros.

Anyone like to comment on Sony WF-1000XM3 VS Sennheiser Momentum True W 2?

The Sony's are on a good deal currently and I like my WM-1000XM3 very much. A little concerned on fit as I intend to use them out walking (not running) and connection reliability with IOS.

I see a lot of arguments on both side as to which sounds the best - what say you?

Priorities:

  1. Sound quality
  2. Fit
  3. Connection stability/management
  4. Battery life

I've just jumped in on the headphone game after getting a bit sick of my uncomfortable-as-anything Astro A50s, and from being pretty underwhelmed by the AirPod pros.

I've just upgraded to of the Beyerdynamic DT990 250 ohm and a Rode AI amp to replace the Astro (I upgraded to my mic to a Rode Procaster as well), and the V-moda Crossfade 2 Codex Edition to replace the Airpods.  I'm really liking the DT990s...I usually listen to different flavours of EDM, and I'm absolutely loving the bass of these..they seem to be a bit bright but that seems to be common feedback on them.  Any idea if changing to a higher end amp and/or DAC would dial it back a bit?

The Vmodas are leaps and bounds better than the AirPods, but I'm a little disappointed with the size of the earcups...they're a little on the small side but I think I'll get used to it as they soften up.

I am honestly blown away by your description of your A50's? Mine are great. Not the best phones I own, but really really good.

DT990's are nice to wear as well, I have the T1's which are exceptional, though I am thinking of selling them to make room for some of my other items.
