Dunnersfella:

Is Addicted 2 Audio in Aussie comparable to the Auckland store?

I wasn't impressed with the NZ operation when it was in Symonds St, I haven't been since they moved and the deals and stock situation hasn't been great. Having said that they seem positive about it since.

Hey Folks,

Perhaps this has already been posted but I just discovered it yesterday. You can now get aptX HD and LDAC support in Windows 10/11!

Alternative A2DP Driver (bluetoothgoodies.com)

I'm very pleased, for a few dollars I can finally use my Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones for listening to music on my laptop.

Cheers
Rhys

In case anyone is into EQ'ing

https://autoeq.app/

Found that site thanks to LTT and I think it's pretty cool. I use Reference 4 headphone edition instead, but I may have a play with this on my laptop to compare.

This is amazing, I thought my EQ was pretty good, but this is even better. Thanks for sharing!

Testing the waters here...

Thinking of downgrading my headphones as they just get so little use these days.

Would anyone be keen on a pair of Meze Empyrean (OG, Black).

30 months old, bought from AVWorld. Perfect condition, comes with all original accessories, hard case, extra 3.5mm (3rd party) cable and the Meze "headphone couch" stand.

Even at sale price, these are still $5400+ in NZ

Thinking of $3200 ono.

Ok, so am now in the market for ANC headphones, after giving my Technics A800 to my daughter.

Tossing up between the Sony XM5 and Sennheiser Momentum 4.

Then saw this news about possible new Bose premium cans releasing in late September to replace NC700 and QC45, so maybe I should wait:

Why did you hand off your A800's? I have found mine to be excellent except for a fault that seems peculiar to me.

In the end I went XM5's and I am not sorry I did. They are a fraction off the A800's for sound quality, but the controls are so superior, it was worth it.

Having said that. I recently tried some technics AZ80's and few AKL to QT and found them superior overall to the XM5's from a convenience perspective. They arent QUITE as comfortable, but the NC was pretty much on the money and they are so much smaller. The sound quality is really excellent for general use.

IME in NZ you'll find a very small number of people willing to spend that kind of bank on headphones. Not only do they need to have the money, but they need to want that sound signature. Generally in that price point, people are pretty clear about what they want.

Not sure how easy they are to drive, but there would likely need to be an additional investment in DAC/AMP.

It's a lovely set of cans though, I've heard great things about them.

They are great and super easy to drive - work fine direct into the Macbook and I ended up selling my A90 as I just didn't need the power.

Yeah, you are not wrong re: market and to be honest I would be more than happy to keep them as I love the sound, the build quality and the comfort. As I said, it is speculative at this point as most of my listening is either 1) Full size speakers in the lounge or 2) Casual listening at work or on the move with either IEMs or my Airpods Max.

It just seems a shame they get used so rarely, so if there was an opporunity to get both money in my pocket and have a alternative decent pair in the house (probably Meze 109 Pro) then I might take it!

I'm kicking myself I didn't jump on that Bose sale recently that put the QC45 at around $320 delivered.

I actually really like the retro styling of the Sennheiser Momentum 3, and am not a fan of the full plastic vibe of many modern ANC wireless headsets.

Fully purchasing for travel use now and will be watching this thread for deals when something comes up.

Wow, Sony bought Audeze!  Hopefully, that doesn't end Auduze as a Head-Fi brand, and just becomes an arm of Sony Entertainment gaming hardware divison!

Yeah - I didn't see that one coming! Even more interesting is the fact it is the Gaming/Entertainment division and not the electronics/audio wing.

My daughter borrowed my A800 one day and loves it so I give it to her, which gives me an excuse to get new cans 😛

Plus I've been having issues with the A800 intermittently pausing the audio connected to my phone while moving around, not sure if it was a bug.

Went with Sennheiser M4W in the end after several trips to JB Hifi (have their mates rates deal) to compare, just felt the plastic used on it feels more premium than the XM5 and the carry case is smaller than XM5. Very happy with it, apart from the excellent sound quality, the gesture controls on it are just as intuitive and more responsive than the XM3 I used to have.
