Addicted to Audio in Melbourne have a pretty big sale due to start at 7pm their time, just a wee heads-up for anyone in the market for gear: https://www.addictedtoaudio.com.au/

Thanks for the heads up! The upto 50% off is a little misleading since nothing in the DACs/Amps is near 50% :)

Are you looking at anything or see anything I should consider?

Not especially, but thought others might like to look - some pretty sharp prices (especially in the headphones section).

Just got an email from Soundearphones about their Black Friday sale.
30% off w/ coupon code: BLACKFRIDAY

For now seems to be limited to the following items:
http://www.soundearphones.com/collections/black-friday

I have just discovered a friend of mine is coming back from the US so he will be able to save me on freight. I am SO tempted to buy the HE400's and people rave about the Burson Amps, but I am torn, the Schiit Lyr also appeals.

I would go for the Lyr myself, stellar performance for the price and the option of tube rolling...

Oh dear, I think you have the bug.

Yup. I was looking at the LYR but I was hoping for a Dac Integrated as well, and my reading indicates a solid state might suit me better.

So torn!

I think integrated solutions are better myself, more bang for the buck. People wanting the ultimate will go separate, but I think the majority can be happy with a one stop shop.

Only now, too late, are you coming to realise why the subtitle for this thread is "sorry about your wallet"...

Heh I had a feeling when I was originally looking for my HD650's. I really would prefer a 1 box solution and to stay under 500USD. I would really like something that would work with my PC and with my Home Theatre Amp, and I am less concerned about portability.

Portability adds a lot of versatility though, honestly I think the sound from my HeadAmp Pico is utterly sublime, just a problem in that it doesn't work with my Note 2/S3. So there are very nice solutions that are portable, but don't disgrace a desktop set-up either. Just something to think about if you're going for maximum utility for the dollar.

Have you seen anywhere that has the HE-400 on a black friday sale price? For a reasonable reduction in price I'd be tempted...

I guess whilst I think portability has some pluses, the only portable scenario would be my iPod or GS3, and I can't see me using the HD650's for that, since I have the Copper Pro Monster IEM's which are just insane. Plus on a bus or some other mobile place, background noise etc and poor source are more likely a problem.

I have to say increasing the Gain on the STX really made it jump. I'd be curious what you think of them now with that scenario. My main concern is spending $500 on an Amp isn't going to result in a significantly better solution. Hard to know I guess. Absolute worst case, it's no better and I could likely sell it for what I paid for it.

True, good points. The source isn't poor though when it's an S3 outputting to USB audio and high quality USB DAC/amp... Still, if you're satisfied without amping on the Copper Pro with the S3 that's no great advantage.

Also when I am mobile, I tend to be concerned about sound leakage out of consideration to others, and the 650's are pretty leaky being open.

What app do you use to play music on the S3? Do you use anything to enhance the sound?

I use PowerAMP, but all the sound enhancement is coming from the USB DAC/amp, I'm not running the EQ or anything listening that way.

Otherwise, best thing for improving the S3s output is Siyah or Perseus Kernel with audio tweaks. PowerAMP's EQ options also add some value. Neutron MP is highly regarded in audiophile circles for offering the best sound quality (UI is horrific though).

I thought I might post a couple of Black Friday Deals on here in case someone was in the market.

Coupon BLACKFRIDAY and GIFTCARD25 are working for http://www.soundearphones.com

Still confirming if you can buy a GC and apply it to pay for 30% off items. Would make it the best buying anywhere right now!

Hi,

Well I have spent the last week or so evaluating the possibility of amp's for my HD650's. I am at the point where I have narrowed it down to a few options:

1) BottleHead Crack Amp DIY Project with Speed Ball Upgrade http://www.bottlehead.com/store.php?crn=224&rn=442&action=show_detail

2) O2+ODac as separate items so I can use the ODac with the Crack Amp.

I wasn't intending to buy two setups, but I am curious to see how the two compare and I guess I can sell whichever is least favourite. I am a little anxious about the DIY thing though I have some soldering experience from my teenage years.

It's probably a little greedy to get two setups, I am still wondering if the O2 Combo isn't really required since I have a good ODAC in my Xonar STX... I would say the bottle head crack amp will be better than the O2, but the other thing is I can use the O2 whilst I build my Crack Amp which might take me a while.
