Got a close eye on these new Sonys

Looking for some comfy closed cans for computer use. Currently rocking Denon AH-D500. They are good, but these Sony's look a step up.

Ah, but I want something to use with my computer and that has its own D/A converter (hence the USB 2/3 part)

Edit: Oh, I see it can be connected via USB. Does it plug in for power (other than via USB) to run it constantly as a computer/headphone amp?

Yes, the FiiO has a DAC too and connects via USB. Can even be used with many Android devices via USB OTG.

There are lots of other products in this category too, what's your budget?

With that kind of budget you can do better than the FiiO :)

I will chime in later about some the options (still at work).

I just bought Onkyo's new DAC-HA200 amplifier and also a pair of ES-CTI300 as a spare set of headphones to back up my KEF M500s.

I'm no expert on amps or DACs, but the HA200 does what it needs to do and seems to perform well. It can connect to an iPad or iPhone using the standard lightning cable, and will work with either the Apple music app or Onkyo's HF player app.

The CTI300s have a boosted mid-range which I generally like as it highlights vocals, however this characteristic sounds slightly artificial. In contrast, my M500s have brilliant warm sounding vocals while still managing to cleanly wrap around musical instruments from across the frequency spectrum. To be fair the M500s are more expensive, so the CTI300s are well worth considering as a spare or for budget conscious buyers.

The DAC/amp pictured there looks interesting. Very similar to the Onkyo unit that I mentioned above.

Avalon Audio. They originally listed these at $400 and the standard price seems to have dropped to $300. I got mine on special for $200 which is an absolute steal.

Was it a one off or would they likely offer one to others at that price?

They seem to have a habit of regularly offering agressive discounts, so I'd suggest keeping an eye on their web site. From memory I think I paid $450 for my KEF M500s, but I've seen Avalon discount them as low as $250 which is an amazing deal given the quality of that product.
