Stu:

Appreciate any suggestions!

Cheers

I have been pretty pleased with my Bose QuietComfort 25s:

  1. They are overpriced, but I got a fairly hefty discount through spouses work at JB Hifi which took that sting away.
  2. I bought them specifically for travel - flights in particular.
  3. They are very comfortable for long periods.
  4. Noise cancelling is good. I often wear them to sleep on planes without the music!
  5. Harder to drive than I thought. iPod on its own needs the volume pushed much higher than I would normally. With my portable headphone amp in the mix, no worries.
  6. Sound is perfectly decent. Better than I would expect from Bose + NC...not as good as my favourite IEMs or open backs but that is to be expected.
  7. Great battery life from single AAA
  8. Good case and accessories

I would balk at spending full price, but if you can get a good deal or an import, I recommend them for travel phones.

Thanks for your comments. Have had a couple of positive comments on the QC25 now. If only they were Bluetooth/Apt-X as well! Will keep them on the list for now though. Looks like I'll need to keep a set of headphones for each task, rather than one pair to cover all uses!

Ive got sennheiser pxc450s which are great, much better sound then the Bose and really good ANC. they also sound really good in pass through mode with the ANC switched off.

I'm after an Audeze LCD 2 Rev 2 (NO fazor). Had one with Fazor and it was a tad bright, like an LCD 3; and lacked sub bass, not even dark anymore.
Cash strapped.
Not expecting anyone to want to sell theirs but hey you never know they might be cash strapped too :)

Regards an ANC headphone with truly great sound and comfort? Doesn't exist. The Polk UltraFocus 8000 are the best sounding ANC headphone I've heardheard, but not the most comfortable. If the ANC and travel aspects are important I'd be looking at the QC25. I believe they sound better than their predecessor.

Regards LCD 2.2c (pre-Fazor), I saw several for sale recently at Head-Fi, probably your best bet.

They look to be an option, thanks. Common price at the moment seems to be around the $600 mark. Would you consider them to be good bang for that many bucks? One common comment on the Bose QC25 is that they're good, if you can get them at a better price than the normal sell price (which from memory is about $470ish?)

Cheers

Thanks @NZtechfreak. It seems the Polk UltraFocus 8000 have been discontinued, and I haven't been able to find a supplier locally still listing stock. Looks like the Bose and Sennheiser are the options at this stage. Cheers

To be honest, I'd prefer local. Thanks though! :-)

I once bought electronic goods from Aliexpress that bears no resemblance to what was described, and every spec listed was a lie! No more.

I've purchased a couple of things from sellers with good feedback generally and for the item they were selling (including my P8Max) and everything has been fine. They have pretty good buyer protections too.

Yes some of them sell genuine items. Feedback is difficult to know - I can see how easy it can be to generate 5/5 star feedback.

I'd trust referrals from other GZ members.

Would something like the Oppo PM-3 passively block enough noise to negate the need for ANC? Could they be an option for travel? Maybe I'll just have to keep my eyes on Bose pricing over the next couple of weeks.

Cheers
