kendog: Thanks, that’s great info.
I am a bass head as well. In my home theatre there are four subs, two SVS Ultras in opposite corners to even the response and two near field behind the main chairs for tactile response. It sounds and feels amazing.

As there are no Audeze dealers in NZ now, I tried my HD6xx against the HifiMan HE560 and Edition X V2 yesterday. I really liked the X, but it’s $1,800 and it didn’t seem that much better than my HD. Bigger sound stage and voice placement, plus easier to drive. But I’m using a Woo tube amp, so I don’t need easy to drive.

I’m now thinking about trying a sub or butt kicker with my headphones. I’ve played a bit of PSVR with headphones and small sub running and that works well.

AVWorld, Computet Lounge and several others still deal in Audeze.

Can vouch for the former - have bought all my recent hifi gear through them.

Thanks, might try contacting AVWorld again, they have the LCD-3 on sale but I didn’t get a reply to a question about it a week ago.

Interestingly, I asked Sound Expression about their Audeze headphones, they said they don’t stock them anymore since the supplier in Australia changed. When you go to the Audeze website, it says there is no NZ or Australia retailer (they are looking for one). Doesn’t inspire confidence spending big dollars on a brand that has some historical quality issues and I haven’t had a chance to try first to see if I actually like them.

I think the Audeze is more a collector's item. Very uncomfortable after half an hour, but it has a planar magnetic sound that is clearly lusher and different to conventional headphones. I bought it thinking it had loads of bass and I only enjoyed it after massive software sound manipulation. When I listened to it on a tube amp at the Melbourne shop it sounded not very different to the HD650, I was quite surprised. So I asked for a solid state amp and that brought them even closer. But it clearly responded to the software that came with my 4 year old Dell laptop. Which isn't going to hang around forever.

Bye bye love.

What are you using instead?
Is that an HD800 in your avatar?

They are more similar than you think! Apart from the missing midrange. When I'm not concentrating I feel the bass I of these little things. When I concentrate I'm crying for midrange lol.

If anyone here is interested in a WooAudio tube headphone amp, I’m going to sell my one.

It’s the WA6, and comes with the Sophia Princes tube upgrade.

https://wooaudio.com/amplifiers/wa6
https://www.avworld.co.nz/shop/product/woo-audio-wa6/overview

It’s an awesome amp, giving a great warm sound. I’m only selling it because I have caught the tube bug and have just purchased a bigger Woo amp :)

If there is no interest here I will list on Trademe.

I know the chances are very low but I am keen to borrow a Cavalli Audio Liquid Carbon Variant Amp. I would ideally like to borrow it for a couple of weeks, and I am happy to pay a security deposit.

Anyone have one or know someone who does?

Or, anyone heading the US willing to bring one back for me?

Anyone know of a local re-seller for the Audeze LCD2 Classic? Can't see it listed by any of the usual suspects...

It looks like they are moving away from Audeze - they had a bunch of ex-demo stuff on sale recently (no LCD2C’s)and now the only Audeze gear listed is a single lonely pair of EL-8s!

In fact I am wondering if the distributer is pulling out or having issues moving the gear as a lot of vendors seem to be phasing the brand out or dropped it already - AVworld, Audio Reference, Rapello etc

I think the reality is that NZ is a tiny market. I am having some issues with sourcing BBQ right now. They sell 20 BBQ's a year in the price range I am looking in and there are 3 models. They only carry the largest unit and I want the smaller unit. His argument perfectly reasonably is, if they sell 20 a year, carrying 3 models doesn't increase sales, it splits them and yet they then need parts for 3 models. I imagine $2000+ headphones sell even less, especially since there is *plenty* of competition in that price range and actually, in the past 3 years, technology means that you can get a 99.9% similar sound out of a pair half the price now. The law of dimishing returns has never been worse in headphones I believe.

I'd love to get a pair of LCD3's to try for a week at home.

I have a pair of HD800s that I love so much, but I wouldn't spend that money on headphones again.

The distributor was saying they were going to set up in NZ a while ago (Addicted to Audio)... even had a press release on StereoNet.

But they simply never did anything about it and the release was removed.

I think their declaration of intent has probably pushed retailers away from doing business with them. So now they may have no choice but to open a shop and put their money where their mouth is OR write off the NZ market? Either way, if you're setting up a headphone store you'd want to sell A LOT of cans from a cheap location as it would be a pretty tough category to make $'s in!
