You can always get the Roku 3 at Amazon and use YouShop to send it here... At US$99 it won't even get the GST at the border.

Yea think I will be using amazon again. I bought my Roku 2 that way.

Keen to hear from anybody that has used the Roku 3 and how it compares to the Roku 2.

I really like the earphones on the remote feature. Quite frankly I can't understand why nobody thought of this sooner. I expect to see more of these type of remotes in the future. I wonder what it does to the batteries?

TVNZ On-Demand is now locked into Samsung devices (TV's / smart boxes) exclusively for around a year... but having said that, it may not always be the case. For instance, in a year a manufacturer like Panasonic may become exclusive, meaning people who bought the Samsung could be stuffed... so yeah, I wouldn't suggest anything other than a computer or app on a smartphone to consume catch up TV.

I have a Roku 2 XS which I got because I wanted wired ethernet. I can't see any reason to upgrade to the Roku 3. The headphone jack in the remote is hardly compelling.

The Roku 2 XS does everything I need to do including Netflix, Vudu, Hulu+, MLB and Angry Birds :-)

freitasm: Can you configure the Roku to use a VPN or a different DNS?

Not directly but it works okay with unblock-US in the router because all its video traffic is not done on  port 80 so avoids TCL's transparent proxy.

Sorry to seem a little dull... but will you need a step-down transformer?

Dunnersfella: Sorry to seem a little dull... but will you need a step-down transformer?

No - switchmode powersupply, just an adapter or a replacement power pack.

If its like the Roku2 then just one of those adaptors from the $2 shop will work. The power supply is auto switching.

billgates let us know how those earphones in the remote work. Thats the feature I'm interested in.

Will do. I have read quite a few review now of Roku 3 and the remote features with earphones seems to work very well. I hope I can plug in any standard headphones into the remote though as I cannot stand ear buds.

Edit - Created my US Roku account as well yesterday via Tunnelbear. Have a US Netflix and Hulu Plus account already. My main reason to buy this is trying to get Dishworld IPTV work here. Get more channels that way for less incl cricket.

Will it stream from your PC? Looks like a nice unit.

No. Big downside. There is a USB port on the unit so you can plug an external HDD to play content via that. I am getting a OUYA box for the PC streaming side of things.
